4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to effectively chop your ingredients:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Cut larger vegetables (e.g., onions, carrots, celery) into smaller, manageable pieces that will fit comfortably within the collection cup. Avoid overfilling the cup.
  2. Position Chopper: Place the prepared ingredients into the collection cup. Position the assembled chopper unit directly over the ingredients.
  3. Chop: Firmly press down on the knob at the top of the chopper unit. The internal blades will rotate 60 degrees with each press, ensuring even chopping.
  4. Repeat: Lift the chopper slightly and press down again. Repeat this action until your ingredients reach the desired consistency. The rotating blades help prevent food from sticking to the sides.
  5. Retrieve Chopped Food: Once chopping is complete, carefully lift the chopper unit from the collection cup. Your chopped ingredients are ready for use.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your vegetable chopper.

Cleaning Instructions:

  1. Disassemble: Separate the stainless steel chopper unit from the collection cup and its base. The collection cup can also be separated from its base for thorough cleaning.
  2. Wash: Hand wash all components immediately after each use with warm, soapy water. Use a brush if necessary to remove any food particles from the blades.
  3. Rinse: Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water to remove soap residue.
  4. Dry: Dry all components completely before reassembling or storing to prevent water spots and potential corrosion.

Note: While some components may be dishwasher safe, hand washing is recommended to preserve the longevity and sharpness of the blades.

Storage:

Once clean and dry, you can reassemble the chopper or store its components separately. If storing chopped food in the collection cup, use the provided storage lid to keep contents fresh.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your Norpro Model 842 Vegetable Chopper, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Food not chopping effectively:
    • Ensure ingredients are cut into appropriate sizes before placing them in the cup. Very large or hard items may require pre-cutting.
    • Apply firm, consistent pressure when pressing the knob.
    • Do not overfill the collection cup. Chop in smaller batches if necessary.
  • Food sticking to blades or sides:
    • The rotating blades are designed to minimize sticking, but very sticky foods may still adhere. Clean blades between batches if needed.
    • Ensure the chopper is clean before use. Residue from previous use can cause sticking.
  • Chopper unit not attaching securely:
    • Check for any food debris or obstructions preventing proper alignment.
    • Ensure the collection cup is correctly seated on its base.
