5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off
Locate the ON/OFF switch on the rear of the unit. Slide the switch to 'ON' to power on the lap counter. Slide to 'OFF' to power down.
5.2 Display Overview
The digital display shows information for two lanes (Winner and 2nd Place). It typically displays lap counts and lap times.
5.3 Setting Race Parameters
The lap counter allows setting race parameters such as the number of laps (from 1 to 999 laps) or a timed race. Refer to the specific buttons on the unit for navigation and selection.
- Lap Count Mode: Set the desired number of laps for the race. The counter will stop when the first car completes the set number of laps.
- Timed Race Mode: Set a specific duration for the race. The counter will track laps within that time frame.
5.4 Starting a Race
Once parameters are set, the unit will typically initiate a countdown (e.g., 4 seconds) before the race officially begins. A "false start" will be indicated if a car passes the sensor before the countdown is complete.
5.5 Lap Counting
As each slot car passes under the sensor arch, the corresponding lane's lap count will increment, and lap times will be recorded. The unit provides distinct beeps for lap completion and for setting a new fastest lap within the current race.
5.6 Race End and Results
At the end of a race (either by lap count or time), the display will show the winner and second-place finisher, along with their respective lap counts and total times. The unit records the fastest lap time for the current race, but not an all-time fastest lap.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the display becomes dim or the unit malfunctions. Always replace all 4 AA batteries at the same time.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and store the unit in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
