4.1 Package Contents

4.2 Physical Installation
- Rack Mounting: Use the included rack-mounting hardware to secure the SRW224 switch into a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

- Network Connections:

4.3 Initial Configuration
The SRW224 can be configured via its console port or through the WebView interface.
- Console Port Configuration: Connect a serial cable from your computer to the console port on the rear of the switch. Use a terminal emulation program (e.g., PuTTY) with appropriate settings (typically 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control) to access the command-line interface.
- WebView Configuration:
- Ensure your computer is connected to one of the switch's 10/100 ports.
- The switch will typically obtain an IP address via DHCP or use a default IP address (refer to the Quick Installation Guide for the default IP if DHCP is not available).
- Open a web browser and enter the switch's IP address.
- Log in using the default credentials (if any) or the credentials you set during initial setup.
- Important Note on Passwords: The SRW224 switch supports passwords up to six characters in length. If you attempt to set a password longer than six characters, it will be truncated without notification. If you encounter login issues, try using only the first six characters of your intended password.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Basic Operation
Once powered on and connected, the SRW224 switch operates automatically to forward network traffic. The Link/Act LEDs on the front panel indicate the connection status and activity for each port. A solid green light typically means a link is established, while a blinking light indicates data activity.
5.2 Advanced Configuration (WebView)
The WebView interface provides access to advanced features and settings.
- VLAN Management: Configure up to 64 Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) to segment your network for improved security and performance.
- Port Trunking (Link Aggregation): Create up to 7 port trunking groups to combine multiple physical links into a single logical link, increasing bandwidth and providing redundancy.
- Quality of Service (QoS): Prioritize network traffic using 802.1p QoS, ensuring critical applications receive sufficient bandwidth. The switch supports two QoS queues per port.
- Data Flow Control: Enable or disable flow control to manage data transmission rates and prevent packet loss during network congestion.
- Broadcast Storm Suppression: Configure settings to prevent broadcast storms from overwhelming the network.
- MAC Address Management: The switch performs hardware MAC address learning. You can also configure static MAC addresses and port security settings.

7. Troubleshooting
7.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- Cannot Access WebView Interface:
- Verify that your computer is on the same network segment as the switch.
- Check the switch's IP address. If it's not known, try connecting via the console port to determine or configure it.
- Ensure there are no IP address conflicts on your network.
- Clear your browser's cache or try a different browser.
- Login Password Issues:
- If you cannot log in after setting a password, remember that the SRW224 only supports passwords up to six characters. If your password was longer, try using only the first six characters.
- There is no external hardware reset button for the password. If the password is lost and the 6-character truncation workaround does not work, you may need to contact Linksys support for advanced recovery options, which might involve a factory reset procedure that erases all configurations.
- No Link/Activity on a Port:
- Check the Ethernet cable connection at both ends. Try a different cable.
- Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
- Verify that the port on the switch is not disabled in the configuration.
- Check for compatibility issues between the switch port and the connected device's network adapter.
- Slow Network Performance:
- Check for network congestion.
- Verify duplex settings on both the switch port and the connected device. Mismatched duplex settings can cause performance degradation.
- Ensure QoS settings are correctly configured to prioritize critical traffic.
- Check for broadcast storms or loops in the network topology.
