This device ensures ultimate signal integrity and offers flexible conversion capabilities between various digital audio formats and sample rates. It is an essential tool for studios and live sound environments requiring precise digital audio routing and conversion.
Key Features
- High-end 24-bit/96 kHz A/D and D/A converter for ultimate signal integrity.
- Converts any sample rate between 31 and 100 kHz into 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 kHz sample rates.
- Flexible format conversion between AES/EBU and S/PDIF (coaxial or optical).
- Universal sample rate synchronization via wordclock or digital input.
- Allows parallel A/D and D/A conversion at identical sample rate.
Setup Guide
Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully unpack the ULTRAMATCH PRO SRC2496 and inspect it for any signs of damage during transit. Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage. Ensure all components listed in the packing material are present.
Connections
The SRC2496 offers a variety of analog and digital connections. Refer to the rear panel diagram below for proper connection points.

Figure 1: Rear panel connections of the SRC2496. This view shows the power input, wordclock I/O, XLR, RCA, and optical digital inputs and outputs, and XLR analog inputs and outputs.
- Power: Connect the supplied power cable to the IEC inlet on the rear panel.
- Analog Inputs/Outputs: Use balanced XLR cables for analog audio input and output connections to your mixing console, audio interface, or other analog equipment.
- Digital Inputs/Outputs: Connect digital audio sources and destinations using AES/EBU (XLR), S/PDIF coaxial (RCA), or S/PDIF optical (TOSLINK) cables.
- Wordclock: For external synchronization, connect a wordclock source to the BNC input or use the BNC output to provide wordclock to other devices.
Initial Power-Up
After making all necessary connections, ensure the power switch on the front panel is in the OFF position. Connect the power cable to a suitable power outlet. Then, switch the unit ON. The front panel indicators will illuminate, indicating the unit is operational.

Operation
Basic Functionality
The SRC2496 functions as both an Analog-to-Digital (A/D) and Digital-to-Analog (D/A) converter. Use the front panel controls to select input sources, output formats, and sample rates. The ANALOG IN and ANALOG OUT meters provide visual feedback on signal levels.
Sample Rate Conversion
To convert sample rates, use the 'SAMPLE RATE' and 'CLOCK' buttons. The SRC2496 can convert incoming digital audio at virtually any sample rate (31-100 kHz) to standard rates like 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, or 96 kHz. Ensure the 'LOCK' indicator is solid green, indicating a stable input signal.
Format Conversion
The unit allows seamless conversion between AES/EBU and S/PDIF formats (coaxial or optical). Use the 'FORMAT' button to cycle through the available digital output formats to match your receiving device.
Synchronization
The SRC2496 can synchronize to an internal clock, an external wordclock, or the incoming digital audio signal. Select the desired synchronization source using the 'CLOCK' button. For multi-device setups, using a dedicated wordclock master is recommended for optimal performance.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the unit in a cool, dry place, ideally in its original packaging.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No audio output | Incorrect input/output selection; cables not connected properly; incorrect sample rate/format. | Verify source and mode settings. Check all cable connections. Ensure sample rates and digital formats match between devices. |
| Synchronization issues (LOCK/ERROR LED blinking) | No valid clock signal; clock source mismatch. | Ensure a stable digital input signal or external wordclock. Verify the 'CLOCK' setting matches your master clock source. |
| Distorted audio | Input/output levels too high (clipping). | Adjust input gain and output levels to prevent clipping, ensuring meters do not consistently hit red. |
| Unit does not power on | Power cable not connected; power outlet issue. | Check power cable connection. Try a different power outlet. |
