Tasco World Class 3-9x40 Riflescope Instruction Manual

Model: WA39X40N

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Tasco World Class 3-9x40 Riflescope. Designed for reliability and optical clarity, this riflescope features a 3-9x variable magnification, a 40mm objective lens, and a 30/30 reticle. It is constructed with Advanced Monotube Construction, ensuring it is 100% waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof. The SuperCon multi-layered coating on the objective and ocular lenses, along with fully coated optics, enhances light transmission for bright and clear images.

Please read this manual thoroughly before using your riflescope to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Setup

Mounting the Riflescope

Proper mounting is crucial for accuracy and consistent performance. The Tasco World Class riflescope is compatible with Weaver Mount systems.

  1. Select Appropriate Rings: Choose high-quality mounting rings that match your rifle's base and the riflescope's tube diameter. Ensure the rings provide sufficient clearance between the objective lens and the rifle barrel.
  2. Secure Bases: Attach the mounting bases to your rifle according to the manufacturer's instructions. Ensure they are tightly secured.
  3. Position Riflescope: Place the riflescope into the lower half of the mounting rings. Adjust its position forward or backward to achieve proper eye relief. Eye relief is the distance between your eye and the ocular lens when the rifle is shouldered comfortably.
  4. Level the Reticle: Rotate the riflescope until the vertical line of the reticle is perfectly aligned with the vertical axis of the rifle. This can be done using a reticle leveling tool or by visually aligning it with a plumb line.
  5. Tighten Rings: Install the top halves of the mounting rings. Tighten the ring screws evenly and gradually, alternating between screws, until the riflescope is securely held without overtightening. Refer to the ring manufacturer's torque specifications if available.

Initial Focus Adjustment

Before zeroing, adjust the eyepiece to ensure the reticle is sharp and clear for your vision.

  1. Point the riflescope at a plain, bright background (like a clear sky) to avoid focusing on an object.
  2. Look through the eyepiece and quickly glance away.
  3. Quickly look back and note if the reticle is sharp. If not, rotate the eyepiece (diopter adjustment) slightly.
  4. Repeat this process until the reticle appears instantly sharp when you look through the scope. Avoid staring, as your eye may compensate for an out-of-focus reticle.

Operating

Magnification Adjustment

The riflescope features a variable magnification from 3x to 9x. The magnification ring is located near the eyepiece. Rotate this ring to increase or decrease the magnification to suit your viewing needs. Lower magnifications provide a wider field of view, useful for close-range targets or tracking moving objects. Higher magnifications are suitable for distant targets where more detail is required.

Windage and Elevation Adjustments

The riflescope is equipped with finger-adjustable windage and elevation turrets, typically located on the top and side of the main tube. Each click of the adjustment turrets typically moves the point of impact by 1/4 Minute of Angle (MOA) at 100 yards.

Figure 2: Close-up view of the riflescope's body, highlighting the windage and elevation adjustment turrets.
  1. Elevation Turret: Located on top of the riflescope. Turning it clockwise (CW) or counter-clockwise (CCW) will adjust the vertical point of impact. Typically, turning 'UP' (often CCW) moves the point of impact up, and 'DOWN' (often CW) moves it down.
  2. Windage Turret: Located on the right side of the riflescope. Turning it clockwise (CW) or counter-clockwise (CCW) will adjust the horizontal point of impact. Typically, turning 'R' (often CW) moves the point of impact right, and 'L' (often CCW) moves it left.

After making adjustments, replace the turret caps to protect the mechanisms from dust and moisture.

Understanding the 30/30 Reticle

The 30/30 reticle features four picket-shaped posts set at 90 degrees from one another. The center point is formed by the intersection of fine crosshairs connecting these opposing pickets. This reticle design can be used for basic distance estimation. At 4x magnification, the crosshair lines represent an area 30 inches across at 100 yards.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Lenses: Use a soft lens brush or compressed air to remove dust and loose debris. For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean microfiber lens cloth and a small amount of lens cleaning fluid. Wipe gently in a circular motion. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as they can damage the lens coatings.
  • Body: Wipe the exterior of the riflescope with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by wiping with a clean, damp cloth and then drying thoroughly.

Storage

Store your riflescope in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, consider using a protective case or cover to prevent dust accumulation and accidental damage.

Troubleshooting

  • Blurry Image: Ensure the eyepiece diopter is correctly adjusted for your vision (refer to 'Initial Focus Adjustment'). Check that the objective lens is clean.
  • Difficulty Zeroing: Verify that the riflescope is securely mounted and that all mounting screws are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications. Ensure you are using consistent shooting technique. If issues persist, consult a qualified gunsmith.
  • Reticle Not Clear: Re-adjust the eyepiece diopter. If the reticle appears damaged or distorted, contact customer support.
  • Fogging: While the riflescope is fogproof, extreme temperature changes can sometimes cause external condensation. Allow the scope to acclimate to the ambient temperature. If internal fogging occurs, contact customer support.
