Megahome Countertop Water Distiller

Model: MH943TWS

Introduction

Welcome to the instruction manual for your Megahome Countertop Water Distiller. This appliance is designed to provide you with pure, distilled water by effectively removing impurities and contaminants through a steam distillation process. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating your distiller to ensure safe and efficient use.

Important Safety Information

  • UL Certified: This Megahome distiller is UL (Underwriters Laboratory) approved, ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards for electrical products.
  • Placement: Use only on a smooth, level, and stable surface. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Electrical Connection: Ensure cords are fully inserted into the unit and wall outlet.
  • Heat and Steam: The distiller gets very hot during operation. Avoid steam injury by disconnecting power and waiting at least 20 minutes before opening the unit after distillation.
  • Water Contact: While the interior is stainless steel, some plastic components may come into contact with condensed water. Be aware of this during operation.

Product Overview

Your Megahome Countertop Water Distiller consists of the main distillation unit and a glass collection bottle. Key components include:

  • Distillation Unit: Features a full 304 stainless steel interior for boiling water and a cooling fan in the upper section.
  • Glass Collection Bottle: A durable glass carafe designed to collect the pure distilled water.
  • Charcoal Filters: Optional activated charcoal filters are included to further purify the water by capturing VOCs.
  • Water Residue Cleaner: A citric acid-based cleaner for descaling the interior.

Setup

Initial Assembly and First Use

  1. Fill the Water Chamber: Open the top lid of the distiller unit. Manually fill the stainless steel chamber with tap water up to the 'FULL' line indicated on the interior.
  2. Place the Lid: Carefully place the top lid back onto the distiller unit. Ensure the power cord connection on the lid aligns with the corresponding outlet on the side of the unit. Push the power cord firmly into the outlet.
  3. Insert Charcoal Filter (Optional): For the first use, and periodically thereafter, place one of the activated charcoal filter bags into the nozzle. Fold the bag lengthwise and slide it into the designated slot.
  4. Position Collection Bottle: Carefully place the durable glass collection bottle directly underneath the nozzle spout to collect the distilled water.
  5. Connect to Power: Plug the distiller's power cord into a wall outlet.
  6. Start Distillation: Locate the 'RESET' button on the side of the distiller unit. If the fan does not start automatically, press the 'RESET' button to begin the distillation process.

Operation

Distillation Process

Once started, the distiller will begin heating the water to 212 degrees Fahrenheit, the optimal temperature for removing impurities. Steam will rise, condense, and drip as pure water into the collection bottle.

  • Duration: The distiller typically produces 1 gallon of pure water in approximately 5.5 to 6 hours.
  • Automatic Shut-off: The unit will automatically shut off once the water in the boiling chamber has evaporated.
  • Noise and Heat: The distiller's cooling fan operates during the process and can generate noticeable noise. The exterior of the unit can also become quite hot (over 120°F), and the surrounding room temperature may increase. Consider placing the distiller in a well-ventilated area or a less-frequented space during operation.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Distiller

Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the efficiency and longevity of your Megahome distiller. After each distillation cycle, you will likely observe mineral deposits left in the stainless steel boiling chamber. These are the impurities removed from your tap water.

  1. Remove Collection Bottle: Carefully slide the glass collection bottle from under the nozzle.
  2. Unplug and Remove Lid: Disconnect the power cord from the unit and the wall. Allow the unit to cool for at least 20 minutes before attempting to remove the top lid. The lid may stick due to the watertight seal; apply constant, gentle pressure on the nozzle side to release it.
  3. Clean Interior: Wipe out the remaining deposits from the stainless steel chamber with a cloth or rinse it with clean water. For hardened residue, use the provided Water Residue Cleaner (Citric Acid, Anhydrous). Follow the instructions on the cleaner bottle: fill the chamber with 4 liters of hot water, add two tablespoons of cleaner, plug in the main power line (without the lid), and switch on to heat the stainless steel tank until boiling. Discard the water after 15-20 minutes, then wash the interior with clean water. Repeat if necessary.
  4. Clean Cooling Fins: Periodically, clean the cooling fins in the top unit to prevent dust buildup, which can reduce efficiency. Use a soft-bristle brush for this.
  5. Replace Charcoal Filter: Replace the activated charcoal filter in the nozzle approximately once a month, or as needed, depending on usage and water quality.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your Megahome Distiller, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Distiller Not Starting: Ensure the power cord is fully inserted into both the unit and the wall outlet. Press the 'RESET' button on the side of the unit.
  • Water Not Distilling or Slow Distillation: Verify that the water level in the chamber is at the 'FULL' line. Check for any obstructions in the nozzle or condensation path.
  • Excessive Mineral Deposits: This is normal and indicates the distiller is effectively removing impurities. Clean the unit regularly as described in the Maintenance section. For very hard water, consider pre-filtering your tap water before distillation.
  • Water Taste/Odor: Ensure the activated charcoal filter is properly installed and replaced regularly. These filters help remove any remaining volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that might affect taste or odor.
  • Plastic Contact with Water: While the product is advertised as "water does not touch plastic," some condensation may occur on the underside of the plastic lid of the collection bottle. This is typically a minor issue, but users should be aware of it.
