3. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for accurate stud detection:

  1. Power On: Press and hold the black button located on the side of the device. The LED lights will blink red, then green, indicating it is ready for use.
  2. Placement: Place the stud finder flat against the wall surface where you intend to scan. Ensure the felt pads on the back of the device are in contact with the wall to prevent scratching.
  3. Scan: While continuously holding the side button, slowly slide the device horizontally across the wall. Maintain firm, even pressure.
  4. Stud Detection: When the device detects a stud, the red LED light will illuminate, and an audible beep will sound. This indicates the edge of a stud. Mark this spot.
  5. Confirm Stud: Continue sliding past the marked spot until the red LED light turns off and the beeping stops. Then, slide the device back in the opposite direction to confirm the stud's location. Mark the other edge of the stud. The center of the stud is typically between these two marks.
  6. Power Off: Release the side button to turn off the device.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BLACK+DECKER SF100 Wood Stud Finder, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the plastic casing and electronic components.
  • Storage: Store the stud finder in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and potential damage.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your stud finder, consider the following:

  • Inaccurate Readings or Irregular Beeping:
    • Ensure the device is calibrated correctly by pressing and holding the button against an empty section of the wall before scanning.
    • Move the device slowly and steadily across the wall. Rapid movement can lead to inaccurate results.
    • Check battery levels. Low batteries can affect performance. Replace if necessary.
    • The device is designed for wood studs. It may give false readings near metal pipes, electrical wiring, or other dense objects within the wall. Exercise caution and verify findings.
  • No Power:
    • Verify that the batteries are inserted correctly with the correct polarity.
    • Replace old batteries with new ones.
    • Ensure the power button is pressed and held firmly during operation.
