Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Open the battery compartment cover on the underside of the unit.
- Insert two (2) AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Note: For extended playback, use fresh alkaline batteries. An optional AC power adapter (not included) can also power the unit.
2. Connecting Earphones
Insert the stereo mini plug of the supplied earphones into the HEADPHONES jack on the unit.
3. Powering On/Off
To power on the unit, press the PLAY button. To power off, press the STOP button until the unit shuts down, or if a disc is not playing, press and hold the STOP button.
Operating Instructions
Playing a CD
- Open the disc compartment cover.
- Place a CD (audio CD, MP3 CD, or ATRAC3plus CD) onto the spindle with the label side facing up.
- Close the disc compartment cover firmly until it clicks.
- Press the PLAY button to start playback.
- Use the SKIP buttons to navigate between tracks. Press and hold to fast forward or rewind.
- Press the STOP button to stop playback.
The 2-line display will show track number, elapsed time, and for MP3/ATRAC3plus discs, ID3 tag information (artist/title) will scroll horizontally. The player supports up to 8 levels of folder organization for MP3/ATRAC3plus files.
G-Protection: This feature helps prevent sound skipping during active use. It is automatically engaged when a disc is playing.
Using the Radio Tuner
The D-NF400 features a digital tuner for FM, AM, TV, and Weather bands.
- Press the MODE button repeatedly until "TUNER" appears on the display.
- Press the BAND button to select FM, AM, TV, or Weather band.
- Use the SKIP buttons to manually tune to a station or press and hold to auto-scan for the next available station.
- To preset a station (up to 51 presets):
- Tune to the desired station.
- Press the MENU button.
- Navigate to "PRESET" and select "STORE".
- Choose a preset number and confirm.
Sound Settings
Customize your audio experience:
- Press the MENU button.
- Navigate to "SOUND" and press ENTER.
- You can adjust LOW, MID, and HIGH frequencies or select from preset equalizer modes: SOFT, ACTIVE, HEAVY, or NONE (default).
Auto Shut-off Timer
The unit can be set to automatically power off after a specified period:
- Press the MENU button.
- Navigate to "TIMER" and select the desired interval (e.g., 10, 20, 30 minutes).
SonicStage CD Simple Burner Software
The D-NF400 is compatible with Sony's SonicStage CD Simple Burner software (typically included with the product at purchase). This software facilitates the creation of ATRAC3plus CDs from MP3 files or other audio CDs. Refer to the software's dedicated manual for detailed instructions on its use.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Unit
- Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth.
- For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild detergent solution, then wipe dry.
- Do not use abrasive pads, scouring powder, or solvents such as alcohol or benzene, as these may damage the finish.
Disc Handling
- Handle discs by their edges to avoid fingerprints on the playing surface.
- Keep discs clean. Wipe gently from the center outwards with a soft, lint-free cloth if necessary.
- Store discs in their cases to protect them from dust and scratches.
Battery Care
- Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
- Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
