Setup and First Use

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials and labels from the slow cooker.
  2. Clean: Wash the removable ceramic cooking pot and the tempered glass lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. The heating base can be wiped with a damp cloth. Note: The ceramic pot is immersible for easy cleaning, but the heating base is not. The item is not dishwasher safe.
  3. Placement: Place the heating base on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface, away from the edge of the counter. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the unit.
  4. Assembly: Place the clean ceramic cooking pot into the heating base.

Operating Instructions

Your Farberware FSSC500 Slow Cooker features three temperature settings: HIGH, LOW, and WARM.

  1. Prepare Food: Place your ingredients into the ceramic cooking pot. Do not overfill; leave at least one inch from the rim.
  2. Cover: Place the tempered glass lid securely on the ceramic cooking pot.
  3. Plug In: Plug the power cord into a standard 220-volt AC electrical outlet. The power indicator light will illuminate.
  4. Select Temperature: Turn the control knob to your desired setting:
    • HIGH: For faster cooking. Typically, 2-4 hours.
    • LOW: For slower cooking. Typically, 4-8 hours.
    • WARM: To keep cooked food at a serving temperature. Do not use the WARM setting for cooking raw food.
  5. Cooking Time: Follow your recipe's recommended cooking times. Avoid lifting the lid frequently, as this releases heat and extends cooking time.
  6. Finish Cooking: Once cooking is complete, turn the control knob to the "OFF" position and unplug the slow cooker from the wall outlet.

Important Note: The exterior of the slow cooker will become hot during operation. Always use the easy-grip handles when moving the unit. Allow the unit to cool completely before cleaning or storing.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and performance of your slow cooker.

  1. Unplug and Cool: Always unplug the slow cooker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Clean Ceramic Pot and Lid: The removable ceramic cooking pot and glass lid can be washed in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. The ceramic pot is immersible for easy cleaning.
  3. Clean Heating Base: Wipe the exterior of the heating base with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the heating base in water or any other liquid.
  4. Stubborn Stains: For stubborn food residue on the ceramic pot, fill it with warm, soapy water and let it soak for a few hours before cleaning. Non-abrasive cleaners or nylon scrubbing pads can be used.
  5. Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals on any part of the slow cooker, as they may damage surfaces.
  6. Dishwasher Safety: The Farberware FSSC500 Slow Cooker is NOT dishwasher safe. Hand washing is recommended for all components.
  7. Storage: Store the slow cooker in a dry place. You can store the lid inverted on the ceramic pot, and the ceramic pot inside the heating base.
