Safety Information
- Always handle the tape measure with care. The blade edges can be sharp.
- Do not allow the blade to retract at high speed without control, as this can cause injury or damage to the tape measure.
- Keep the tape measure clean and free from debris to ensure smooth operation.
- Store the tape measure in a dry place to prevent corrosion.
Product Features
- Mylar Wrapped Coating: Provides enhanced durability and extends the life of the blade.
- Tru-Zero End Hook: Features a 3-rivet construction for accuracy in both internal and external measurements. The hook moves to compensate for its own thickness.
- Thumb Lock: A convenient thumb-operated lock mechanism to hold the blade securely in position.
- Compact Plastic Case: Durable and lightweight housing for comfortable handling and portability.
- Metric Scale: Clear and easy-to-read metric markings for precise measurements up to 5 meters.
- Class II Accuracy: Meets industry standards for measurement precision.
Setup
The Stanley Powerlock Tape Measure requires minimal setup. Upon unboxing, inspect the tape measure for any visible damage. Ensure the blade extends and retracts smoothly and that the thumb lock engages properly. The belt clip on the back allows for convenient carrying.

Operating Instructions
1. Extending the Blade
Grip the tape measure firmly. Pull the end hook to extend the blade to the desired length. The blade will remain extended due to internal spring tension.
2. Using the Thumb Lock
To hold the blade at a specific length, slide the thumb lock forward. This will engage the locking mechanism, preventing the blade from retracting. To release, slide the thumb lock backward.

3. Taking Measurements
- External Measurement: Hook the end of the blade onto the edge of the object you wish to measure. Extend the tape and read the measurement at the desired point. The Tru-Zero hook compensates for its own thickness.
- Internal Measurement: Push the end hook against the inside corner of the object. Extend the tape and read the measurement. The Tru-Zero hook will move inward to provide an accurate reading. For precise internal measurements, some users prefer to add the case length (usually marked on the case) to the blade reading when the case is butted against a surface.

4. Retracting the Blade
Release the thumb lock (if engaged) and allow the blade to retract slowly and controlled into the case. Avoid letting the blade snap back quickly, as this can damage the hook or the blade itself.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the blade and case with a clean, dry cloth after each use to remove dust, dirt, or moisture. For stubborn grime, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by thorough drying.
- Lubrication: The internal mechanism is generally maintenance-free. Avoid applying lubricants directly to the blade or internal components, as this can attract dirt.
- Storage: Store the tape measure in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and corrosive substances.
Troubleshooting
- Blade does not retract smoothly: Check for dirt or debris inside the case or on the blade. Clean as per maintenance instructions. If the issue persists, the internal spring mechanism may be damaged, requiring replacement.
- End hook is loose: The Tru-Zero hook is designed to have slight movement. If it appears excessively loose or bent, it may affect accuracy. Inspect the rivets for damage.
- Inaccurate measurements: Ensure the Tru-Zero hook is functioning correctly for internal and external measurements. Verify that the blade is not bent or damaged.
