Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your Reelcraft RT835-OLP spring rewind hose reel. The RT835-OLP is a spring-driven hose reel designed for lighter industrial applications, featuring a composite spool, a gusseted steel base, and a guide arm. It includes 35 feet of 1/2-inch I.D. high-quality PVC hose suitable for air or water, along with an adjustable hose stop. Please read this manual thoroughly before use.
Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the equipment:
- Ensure the hose reel is securely mounted to a stable surface before connecting any hoses or applying pressure.
- Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure of 300 PSI.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling the hose or operating the reel.
- Keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts during hose retraction.
- Regularly inspect the hose for cuts, abrasions, or leaks. Replace damaged hoses immediately.
- Do not attempt to disassemble the spring mechanism without proper training, as it contains a powerful spring under tension.
Setup and Installation
The Reelcraft RT835-OLP hose reel can be mounted in various positions to suit your workspace. Ensure the mounting surface is capable of supporting the reel's weight (approximately 27 lbs) plus the weight of the hose and any applied tension.
Mounting Options:
- Wall Mount: Securely attach the reel to a sturdy wall stud or appropriate anchor points.
- Ceiling Mount: Install the reel overhead, ensuring it is fastened to structural supports.
- Floor Mount: Bolt the reel directly to the floor for stable ground-level access.
Use appropriate hardware (not included) for your specific mounting application. The reel's base features pre-drilled holes for secure attachment.

Guide Arm Adjustment:
The multi-positional guide arm can be adjusted to seven different positions to optimize hose payout and retraction based on your mounting orientation. To adjust, carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions for releasing spring tension before repositioning the arm. Improper adjustment or releasing tension incorrectly can cause the spring to disengage.

Operating Instructions
Hose Extension:
To extend the hose, simply pull it out to the desired length. The internal spring mechanism will allow the hose to extend smoothly. The latch pawl, mounted on the guide arm, will engage at various intervals to hold the hose at the desired length. You will hear a clicking sound as the latch engages.
Hose Retraction:
To retract the hose, pull it out slightly further until the latch pawl disengages. Then, guide the hose back into the reel. Allow the spring to retract the hose at a controlled speed. Do not release the hose abruptly, as this can cause damage to the reel or surrounding objects. The latch-out feature prevents the hose from locking at full extension.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper function of your hose reel.
- Cleaning: Keep the reel clean from dirt and debris. The steel parts are powder-coated for excellent corrosion resistance, but regular cleaning helps maintain this protection.
- Hose Inspection: Periodically inspect the entire length of the hose for any signs of wear, cuts, bulges, or leaks. Replace the hose if any damage is found.
- Spring Assembly: The drive spring assembly is containerized, reducing the need for frequent maintenance. However, if you notice issues with retraction, consult the troubleshooting section or contact support.
- Lubrication: Occasionally apply a light lubricant to the guide arm pivots and other moving external parts to ensure smooth operation.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Reelcraft RT835-OLP hose reel.
- Hose Leaks:
Issue: The hose is leaking from various points.
Solution: Inspect the hose for visible damage. If the hose is compromised, it must be replaced. Check all connections for tightness. Ensure the hose stop is properly positioned and not causing undue stress on the hose.
- Hose Not Retracting Fully or Weak Recoil:
Issue: The hose does not retract completely, or the spring tension feels weak.
Solution: Ensure there are no obstructions preventing the hose from retracting. Check if the guide arm is properly aligned. If the spring tension is significantly reduced, the internal spring may need adjustment or replacement. This typically requires professional service due to the contained spring assembly.
- Spring Disengagement After Guide Arm Adjustment:
Issue: The internal spring disengaged after attempting to adjust the guide arm.
Solution: This indicates the spring tension was not released correctly during adjustment. Re-engaging the spring requires specific procedures and can be hazardous. It is strongly recommended to contact Reelcraft customer service or a qualified technician for assistance to avoid injury or further damage.
- Difficulty Extending Hose:
Issue: The hose is difficult to pull out or gets stuck.
Solution: Check for kinks in the hose or obstructions around the guide arm. Ensure the reel is mounted level and the hose is not rubbing against any surfaces. Lubricate the guide arm pivots if they appear stiff.
