2. Setup and First Use
2.1 Unpacking and Initial Cleaning
- Carefully remove all packaging materials and accessories from the box.
- Wash the water tank, drip tray, and portafilter with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the machine in water.
2.2 Filling the Water Tank
- Remove the water tank from the back of the machine.
- Fill the tank with fresh, cold tap water up to the MAX level indicator.
- Place the water tank back into its position, ensuring it is seated correctly.
2.3 Priming the Pump (First Use or After Extended Storage)
- Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Place a container under the steam wand.
- Turn the machine ON using the power switch. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Once the machine reaches operating temperature (indicator light stable), open the steam knob fully.
- Allow water to flow through the steam wand until a steady stream is observed. This purges air from the system.
- Close the steam knob. The machine is now primed.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Making Espresso
- Ensure the machine is primed and heated.
- Insert the desired filter basket (single or double shot) into the portafilter.
- Add finely ground espresso coffee to the filter basket. For best results, use fresh, high-quality espresso grind.
- Tamp the coffee evenly with a tamper.
- Attach the portafilter to the group head by aligning it and rotating it firmly to the right until secure.
- Place one or two espresso cups on the drip tray beneath the portafilter spouts.
- Press the espresso brew button. Coffee will begin to flow.
- Press the brew button again to stop the flow when the desired volume is reached (typically 25-30ml per shot).
- Carefully remove the portafilter and discard the used coffee grounds.
3.2 Frothing Milk (Pannarello Device)
- Fill a stainless steel pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) up to one-third full.
- Press the steam button. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate steadily, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
- Position the steam wand's Pannarello device just below the surface of the milk.
- Slowly open the steam knob. Steam will begin to froth the milk.
- Move the pitcher up and down gently to incorporate air and create foam. For latte art, aim for a silky, microfoam texture.
- Once the milk reaches the desired temperature and consistency (approximately 140-150°F or 60-65°C), close the steam knob.
- Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.
- Purge a small amount of steam into the drip tray to clear any remaining milk from the wand.
4. Maintenance and Cleaning
4.1 Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove and rinse the portafilter and filter baskets under running water.
- Steam Wand: Wipe immediately after frothing. Purge steam to clear internal residue.
- Exterior: Wipe the machine's exterior with a soft, damp cloth.
4.2 Weekly Cleaning
- Group Head: Use a brush to clean coffee grounds from the group head gasket and shower screen.
- Water Tank: Rinse the water tank thoroughly.
4.3 Descaling (Every 2-3 Months or as Needed)
Regular descaling is crucial to prevent mineral buildup and maintain machine performance. Use a Saeco-approved descaling solution.
- Prepare the descaling solution according to the product instructions and pour it into the water tank.
- Place a large container under the steam wand and another under the group head.
- Turn on the machine. Once heated, run approximately half of the solution through the group head by pressing the brew button.
- Open the steam knob and dispense the remaining solution through the steam wand.
- Turn off the machine and let it sit for 20-30 minutes to allow the solution to work.
- Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
- Run several full tanks of fresh water through both the group head and steam wand to rinse the machine completely.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No water flow from group head. | Water tank empty; pump not primed; machine clogged with scale. | Fill water tank; prime the pump (Section 2.3); descale the machine (Section 4.3). |
| Coffee brews too slowly or drips. | Coffee ground too fine; too much coffee in filter; machine needs descaling. | Use coarser grind; reduce coffee amount; descale the machine. |
| Coffee brews too quickly or is watery. | Coffee ground too coarse; not enough coffee; tamping too light. | Use finer grind; increase coffee amount; tamp more firmly. |
| No steam from wand. | Steam button not pressed; wand clogged; machine not at temperature. | Press steam button; clean steam wand thoroughly; wait for steam light to stabilize. |
