5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Making Espresso

  1. Preheating: Ensure the water tank is filled. Plug in the appliance and turn it on. Allow the machine to preheat until the indicator light signals it is ready (approximately 30 seconds).
  2. Prepare Portafilter: Select the desired filter basket (single or double shot) and place it into the portafilter. Add finely ground espresso coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use one scoop; for a double shot, use two scoops.
  3. Tamping: Lightly tamp the coffee grounds with the tamper end of the scoop to create an even, compact puck. Wipe any excess grounds from the rim of the portafilter.
  4. Attach Portafilter: Insert the portafilter into the brewing head and turn it firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
  5. Brewing: Place one or two espresso cups beneath the portafilter spouts. Press the brew button. The machine will dispense espresso. Press the brew button again to stop the flow once the desired volume is reached.
  6. Remove Portafilter: Carefully remove the portafilter by turning it to the left. Discard the used coffee grounds.

5.2 Using the Steam Nozzle for Cappuccino

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a metal frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Activate Steam: Turn the steam control knob to the steam position. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Briefly open the steam valve to release any condensed water. Close the valve.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the steam nozzle just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve. Move the pitcher up and down to create foam. Once the milk has reached the desired temperature and texture, close the steam valve and remove the pitcher.
  5. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam valve again to clear any internal milk.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffee maker.

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, remove and clean the portafilter, filter baskets, and drip tray with warm soapy water. Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.
  • Water Tank: Clean the water tank weekly with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Descaling: Depending on water hardness and frequency of use, descale the machine every 2-3 months. Use a commercial descaling solution suitable for espresso machines and follow the product instructions. Run several cycles with clean water after descaling to rinse thoroughly.
  • Steam Wand: Always clean the steam wand immediately after frothing milk to prevent blockages.
