Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating electrical tools. This glue gun operates at high temperatures and can cause burns if not handled properly.

  • Hot Surfaces: The nozzle and melted glue are extremely hot. Avoid direct contact with skin. Use caution and wear appropriate protective gear, such as heat-resistant gloves, if necessary.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the power cord is not damaged and is plugged into a compatible 127-volt AC outlet. Do not operate in wet conditions.
  • Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area.
  • Storage: Always unplug the glue gun and allow it to cool completely before storing. Store in a dry, safe place out of reach of children.
  • Proposition 65 Warning: This product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

Product Features

The Surebonder DT-270 is designed for versatility and ease of use in various crafting and DIY projects.

  • Dual Temperature Settings: Features a switch for both high and low temperature operation.
    • High Temperature: Ideal for stronger bonding on materials like wood, metal, plastic, and ceramics.
    • Low Temperature: Suitable for delicate materials such as foam, floral, paper, and fabric.
  • Full Size Design: Accommodates standard 7/16" diameter full-size glue sticks.
  • 40 Watts Power: Provides efficient heating for consistent glue flow.
  • Integrated Kickstand: Allows the glue gun to rest safely on its side when not in use, preventing glue drips and protecting surfaces.
  • Insulated Nozzle: Designed with an insulated nozzle for enhanced safety.

Figure 2: The integrated kickstand allows for safe resting of the glue gun.

Setup

  1. Insert Glue Stick: Insert a 7/16" diameter full-size glue stick into the back of the glue gun. Push it firmly until it stops.
  2. Position Kickstand: Extend the metal kickstand at the front of the glue gun to allow it to rest securely on a flat, heat-resistant surface.
  3. Select Temperature: Locate the dual temperature switch (usually marked "HI" and "LO") on the side of the glue gun. Select the appropriate temperature setting for your project materials.
  4. Plug In: Plug the glue gun into a standard 127-volt AC electrical outlet.
  5. Heat Up: Allow the glue gun to heat up for approximately 3-5 minutes. The glue will begin to melt and be ready for use when the trigger can be squeezed with light pressure to dispense glue.

Operating Instructions

  1. Apply Glue: Once heated, gently squeeze the trigger to dispense melted glue from the nozzle. Apply glue to one surface you wish to bond.
  2. Join Surfaces: Immediately press the two surfaces together firmly. Hot melt glue sets quickly, so work efficiently.
  3. Refill Glue Stick: As the glue stick shortens, insert a new one into the back of the gun to push the remaining portion through. Do not pull out partially used glue sticks from the back.
  4. Temperature Selection:
    • Use HIGH temperature for materials like wood, metal, plastic, and ceramics, which require a stronger bond and higher melting point.
    • Use LOW temperature for delicate materials such as foam, floral arrangements, paper, and fabric, where excessive heat could cause damage or discoloration.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After use, allow the glue gun to cool completely. Gently wipe any excess glue from the nozzle with a dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning solvents on the electrical components.
  • Storage: Store the glue gun in a clean, dry place. Ensure the kickstand is properly extended or the gun is placed on a protective surface to prevent residual glue from damaging surfaces.
  • Nozzle Care: Do not attempt to remove the nozzle unless specifically instructed by the manufacturer. For optimal performance, keep the nozzle clear of hardened glue.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Glue not flowingNot fully heated; glue stick not inserted properly; clogged nozzle.Allow more time to heat (5-7 minutes); push glue stick firmly; ensure nozzle is clear (do not use metal objects).
Excessive glue drippingOverheating (left on too long); incorrect temperature setting for glue stick type.Unplug if not in continuous use; ensure correct temperature setting is selected.
Glue not bonding properlyIncorrect temperature setting for material; insufficient glue applied; surfaces not clean.Use HIGH temperature for stronger bonds; apply adequate glue; clean surfaces before application.
