Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to properly set up your Attwood Universal Motor Flusher:

  1. Position the Flusher: Locate the water intake ports on the lower unit of your outboard or inboard/outboard engine. Place the molded cups of the flusher over these intake ports.
  2. Secure the Yoke: The self-adjusting clamping yoke will automatically secure the flusher firmly against the lower unit, ensuring the cups create a tight seal around the water intakes. Verify that the flusher is stable and will not dislodge during operation.
  3. Connect the Garden Hose: Attach a standard garden hose to the hose connection point on the flusher. Ensure the connection is secure to prevent leaks.

Operating Instructions

Once the flusher is securely attached and the hose is connected, proceed with flushing your engine:

  1. Turn on Water Supply: Slowly turn on the water supply from your garden hose. IMPORTANT: Do not use full flow from the hose. Excessive water pressure can damage the engine's cooling system. A moderate flow is sufficient.
  2. Start Engine: Once water is flowing through the flusher and into the engine, start the engine. Allow it to run at a low idle speed.
  3. Monitor Water Flow: Observe the tell-tale (pee hole) stream from your engine. A steady stream indicates proper water circulation through the cooling system. Continue flushing for several minutes to ensure all salt, sand, silt, and alkali are cleared.
  4. Shut Down: First, turn off the engine. Then, turn off the water supply from the garden hose. Disconnect the hose and remove the flusher from the engine.

Safety Note: Always ensure the engine is in neutral before starting. Never run the engine at high RPMs while flushing with the motor flusher.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your Attwood Universal Motor Flusher:

  • Cleaning: After each use, rinse the flusher with fresh water to remove any salt or debris.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the molded cups and the clamping yoke for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Ensure the hose connection point is clear of obstructions.
  • Storage: Store the flusher in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Flusher does not seal properly / Water leaks excessivelyIncorrect positioning; Cups are worn or damaged; Engine intake design incompatibility.Reposition the flusher to ensure cups fully cover intakes. Inspect cups for damage and replace if necessary. Confirm compatibility with your engine model.
Insufficient water flow from tell-taleLow water pressure from hose; Clogged flusher or engine cooling system; Improper seal.Increase water pressure (but avoid full flow). Check flusher for debris. Ensure a tight seal. If problem persists, engine cooling system may require professional inspection.
Flusher dislodges during operationImproperly secured; Excessive engine vibration; High water pressure.Ensure the clamping yoke is fully engaged and secure. Reduce engine RPMs. Reduce water pressure.
