Loading Film

The Pentax 67II uses medium format roll film. Open the camera back by sliding the film back release lever. Insert the film roll into the film chamber, ensuring the leader is properly aligned with the take-up spool. Close the camera back securely.

Attaching a Finder

The 67II features user-interchangeable finders. To attach a finder, slide it into the accessory shoe on top of the camera body until it locks into position. Ensure it is firmly seated.

Operating the Pentax 67II

Powering On/Off

The camera does not have a distinct 'power on/off' switch in the modern sense. It is a mechanical camera. The shutter speed dial and film advance lever are the primary controls for operation.

Setting Shutter Speed

Rotate the shutter speed dial located on the top right of the camera body to select the desired shutter speed. Available speeds typically range from 1/1000 second to 1 second, plus Bulb (B) and Time (T) settings.

Setting Aperture

Adjust the aperture ring on the attached lens to control the depth of field and exposure. Refer to your specific lens manual for detailed aperture settings.

Focusing

Look through the viewfinder and rotate the focusing ring on the lens until your subject appears sharp on the focusing screen. The 67II typically features a split-image or microprism focusing aid.

Taking a Picture

Advance the film using the film advance lever until it stops. Compose your shot, set exposure, focus, and then press the shutter release button located on the front of the camera body.

Film Advance and Counter

After each exposure, advance the film using the film advance lever. The frame counter will indicate the number of exposures taken.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Camera Body

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the camera body. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild camera cleaning solution. Avoid harsh chemicals.

Cleaning the Lens and Viewfinder

Use a lens brush or blower to remove dust from the lens elements and viewfinder. For smudges, use a specialized lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. Do not touch optical surfaces with bare hands.

Storage

When not in use, store the camera in a dry, dust-free environment, preferably in a camera bag or case. Remove film if storing for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera not firing: Check if the film is advanced. Ensure the shutter speed dial is not set to 'T' (Time) without proper release. Verify the shutter release button is fully depressed.
  • Film not advancing: Ensure the film is correctly loaded and the film advance lever is fully cycled.
  • Dark or underexposed images: Check shutter speed and aperture settings. Ensure sufficient light for the chosen settings. Verify the lens cap is removed.
  • Blurry images: Confirm proper focus. Use a tripod for slow shutter speeds. Check for camera shake.
