Removing the Lens

  1. Ensure the camera is powered off.
  2. While pressing the lens release button on the camera body, rotate the lens counter-clockwise until it detaches.
  3. Replace the rear lens cap and the camera body cap immediately to protect the lens and camera sensor from dust.

Operating the Lens

Manual Focus

This is a manual focus lens. To focus, rotate the focus ring on the lens barrel until the subject appears sharp in the viewfinder or on the camera's LCD screen. Utilize your camera's focus assist features, such as focus peaking or magnification, for precise focusing.

Aperture Control

The aperture (f-stop) controls the amount of light entering the lens and the depth of field. Rotate the aperture ring on the lens barrel to select your desired f-stop, ranging from f/1.4 (widest aperture) to f/16 (narrowest aperture). A wider aperture (smaller f-number) allows more light and creates a shallower depth of field, while a narrower aperture (larger f-number) allows less light and creates a greater depth of field.

Depth of Field Scale

The lens features a depth of field scale, which indicates the range of distances that will appear acceptably sharp at a given aperture setting. This can be useful for zone focusing or understanding the extent of sharpness in your images.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Lens Elements

  • Use a blower brush to remove dust and loose particles from the front and rear lens elements.
  • For smudges or fingerprints, apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution to a clean, soft microfiber cloth and gently wipe the surface in a circular motion from the center outwards.
  • Never apply cleaning solution directly to the lens surface.
  • Avoid touching the lens elements with your fingers.

Cleaning the Lens Body

Wipe the lens body with a clean, dry, soft cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly dampened cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Do not use organic solvents like paint thinner or benzene.

Storage

When not in use, store the lens with both front and rear caps attached in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Consider using a desiccant to prevent mold and mildew in humid environments.

Troubleshooting

  • Blurry Images: Ensure the lens is properly focused. Check your camera's shutter speed and aperture settings to avoid motion blur or insufficient depth of field.
  • Difficulty Attaching/Removing Lens: Ensure the mounting indexes are aligned and the lens release button is fully pressed when removing. Do not force the lens.
  • Dust on Images: This is often due to dust on the camera sensor, not the lens. Refer to your camera's manual for sensor cleaning procedures. For dust on the lens elements, follow the cleaning instructions in the Maintenance section.
