5. Setup
5.1. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
- Slide the cover open in the direction indicated by the arrow.
- Insert 4 'AA' size batteries (not included) into the compartment, ensuring the correct polarity (+ and -) as marked inside.
- Replace the battery compartment cover, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Note: Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
5.2. AC Power Connection
- Insert the small plug of the included AC adaptor into the AC Adaptor Jack on the side or back of the radio.
- Plug the other end of the AC adaptor into a standard 120V AC wall outlet.
Note: When the AC adaptor is connected, battery power is automatically disconnected.
5.3. Attaching the Carrying Strap
Thread the carrying strap through the designated loop on the radio until it is securely fastened. This allows for easy portability.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Turning On and Adjusting Volume
- Rotate the Power ON/OFF/Volume Control knob clockwise until you hear a click and the radio turns on.
- Continue rotating the knob to adjust the volume to your desired level.
6.2. AM/FM Radio Operation
- Slide the Band Selector Switch to either the 'AM' or 'FM' position.
- For FM reception, extend the telescopic antenna fully and adjust its position for optimal signal. For AM reception, the radio has a built-in antenna; rotate the entire unit for best reception.
- Rotate the Tuning Knob to select your desired radio station.
6.3. Weather Band (WB) Operation
The MR-600 receives 24-hour weather and marine forecasts on all 7 NOAA weather band frequencies.
- Slide the Band Selector Switch to the 'WB' position.
- Extend the telescopic antenna fully and adjust its position for optimal reception.
- Rotate the Tuning Knob to select one of the 7 weather band channels. Listen for the continuous weather broadcast.
6.4. Storm Alert Function
The Storm Alert feature will automatically activate an alarm and switch to the weather band broadcast when a severe weather alert is issued by NOAA.
- Ensure the radio is powered on and the Band Selector Switch is set to 'WB'.
- Slide the Storm Alert Switch to the 'ON' position.
- The radio will monitor for NOAA weather alerts. If an alert is broadcast, the unit will emit an audible alarm and automatically tune to the weather broadcast.
- To silence the alarm, slide the Storm Alert Switch to 'OFF' or change the band.
Important: For the Storm Alert to function, the radio must be powered on and set to the 'WB' band with the Storm Alert switch 'ON'.
6.5. Using the Headphone Jack
Plug 3.5mm stereo headphones (not included) into the Headphone Jack for private listening. The built-in speaker will automatically mute when headphones are connected.
