Key Components:

  • ProHeat Elements: Patented elements with a protective covering for even toasting and extended lifespan. These elements are replaceable.
  • Selector Switch: Allows selection of 1, 2, 3, or 4 slots for toasting, or a bagel setting. This feature helps conserve energy by only heating the required slots.

3. Setup

Unpacking

  1. Carefully remove the toaster from its packaging.
  2. Remove all packaging materials, including any protective films or inserts from the toaster slots.
  3. Inspect the toaster for any signs of damage. If damaged, do not use and contact customer support.

Placement

  • Place the toaster on a firm, flat, heat-resistant surface.
  • Ensure there is adequate clearance around the toaster, especially above and behind, to allow for proper ventilation and prevent heat damage to surrounding surfaces.
  • Plug the toaster into a suitable 120V AC power outlet.

Initial Use

Before toasting bread for consumption, it is recommended to run the toaster through a full cycle without bread. This will burn off any manufacturing residues and odors.

  1. Set the selector switch to all 4 slots.
  2. Turn the mechanical timer to a medium setting (e.g., 2-3 minutes).
  3. Lower the ejector lever to activate the elements.
  4. Allow the cycle to complete. A slight odor or smoke may be present during this initial use; this is normal.
  5. Once the cycle is complete, the toaster is ready for use.

4. Operating Instructions

Basic Toasting

  1. Insert Bread: Place slices of bread into the desired slots. The extra-wide 28mm slots accommodate various bread types.
  2. Select Slots: Use the selector switch to activate the specific slots you intend to use (1, 2, 3, or 4 slots). This ensures only the necessary elements are heated, saving energy.

  1. Set Timer: Turn the mechanical timer dial to your preferred browning level. Lighter settings correspond to shorter times, darker settings to longer times.
  2. Start Toasting: Push the manual ejector lever down to lower the bread into the slots. The elements will begin to heat.
  3. Retrieve Toast: When the timer completes, the elements will switch off. The toast will remain in the slots, kept warm by residual heat. To retrieve, push the ejector lever up. You can also raise the lever at any point during the cycle to check the toast.

Defrost Function

To defrost frozen bread before toasting, simply add approximately one minute to your usual toasting time setting on the mechanical timer.

Bagel Function

The toaster features a bagel setting to toast one side of the bagel while warming the other. To use this function:

  • Insert the bagel halves with the cut side facing inwards (towards the center elements).
  • Select the appropriate slot(s) using the selector switch.
  • Set the mechanical timer to your desired browning level.
  • Lower the ejector lever to begin toasting.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Dualit toaster.

General Cleaning

  • Always unplug the toaster and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Wipe the exterior of the toaster with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the finish.
  • Never immerse the toaster in water or any other liquid.

Crumb Tray

The removable crumb tray should be emptied regularly to prevent crumb buildup, which can cause smoke or fire.

  1. Ensure the toaster is unplugged and cool.
  2. Pull out the crumb tray located at the bottom front of the toaster.
  3. Discard crumbs and wipe the tray clean with a damp cloth.
  4. Ensure the tray is completely dry before reinserting it into the toaster.

Element Replacement

One of the unique features of Dualit toasters is their repairability. The ProHeat elements are designed to be replaceable. If an element fails, it can be replaced rather than replacing the entire toaster. Refer to the detailed service manual or contact Dualit customer support for instructions on element replacement.
