Important Safety Instructions

  • Always handle the French Press with care, especially when it contains hot liquids. The glass carafe is heat-resistant but can break if dropped or subjected to sudden temperature changes.
  • Keep the appliance out of reach of children.
  • Do not use the French Press on a stovetop, in a microwave, or in an oven. It is designed for manual brewing only.
  • Ensure the lid and plunger assembly are securely in place before pressing.
  • Do not overfill the carafe. Leave at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) of space below the spout.
  • Press the plunger slowly and steadily. Forcing it down quickly can cause hot liquid to spray out.
  • Dispose of coffee grounds carefully after use.

Setup

Before using your French Press for the first time, please follow these steps:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Wash: Wash the carafe, lid, and plunger assembly thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Rinse well and dry.
  3. Assemble: Ensure the plunger assembly is correctly attached to the lid. The mesh filter should be flat against the spiral plate.

Operating Instructions: Brewing Coffee

Follow these steps to brew a perfect cup of coffee with your BODUM BISTRO NOUVEAU French Press:

  1. Preheat (Optional): Pour a small amount of hot water into the carafe and swirl it around to preheat the glass. Discard the water.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Add coarse ground coffee to the carafe. A general guideline is 14 grams of coffee for every 120 ml (approximately 1 cup) of water. Adjust to your preferred strength.
  3. Pour Hot Water: Pour fresh hot water (ideally between 90°C and 103°C / 195°F and 205°F) over the coffee grounds. Ensure all grounds are saturated.
  4. Stir: Gently stir the coffee and water with a non-metal spoon.
  5. Steep: Place the lid on the carafe with the plunger pulled all the way up. Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.
  6. Press: After 4 minutes, slowly and steadily press the plunger down. Do not force it. The plunger should descend smoothly.
  7. Serve: Pour the freshly brewed coffee immediately. Do not let coffee sit in the French Press with the grounds, as it can continue to extract and become bitter.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning ensures the longevity of your French Press and the best coffee flavor.

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, discard coffee grounds. Rinse the carafe, lid, and plunger assembly with warm water.
  • Thorough Cleaning: For a more thorough clean, the plunger assembly can be unscrewed and disassembled. Wash all parts with warm, soapy water using a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
  • Dishwasher Safe: All parts of the BODUM BISTRO NOUVEAU French Press are dishwasher safe. Place them on the top rack for best results.
  • Drying: Allow all components to dry completely before reassembling or storing.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can scratch the glass or damage the metal/plastic components.
