TERK Amplified AM/FM Stereo Indoor Antenna (TOWER) User Manual

Model: TOWER

Product Overview

The TERK TOWER is a high-performance amplified indoor antenna designed to enhance AM/FM stereo reception. It improves both short and long-range signal acquisition, aiming to reduce static and noise for a clearer listening experience. Its design integrates advanced technology to isolate AM and FM elements, boosting weak signals by up to 15dB.

Key features include:

  • Omnidirectional reception for improved AM/FM station acquisition.
  • Air Coil™ Technology to isolate AM and FM elements, minimizing static and noise.
  • Built-in low-noise amplifier to boost weak signals.
  • Up to 15dB gain for hard-to-receive AM/FM signals.
  • Corded electric power source.

What's in the Box

Upon opening the package, verify that all components are present:

  • TERK Amplified AM/FM Stereo Indoor Antenna (TOWER unit)
  • Power Adapter (typically included, ensure it is present)
  • AM and FM connection cables

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your TERK TOWER antenna:

1. Antenna Placement

Optimal placement is crucial for best reception. Consider the following:

  • Place the antenna away from large metal objects, walls, and other electronic devices that can cause interference, such as televisions, computers, Wi-Fi routers, and power supplies. A distance of at least 15-18 inches from such devices is recommended.
  • Experiment with different locations within your room to find the spot with the strongest signal for your desired stations. Higher locations or near windows often yield better results.

2. Connecting to Your Receiver/Tuner

The TERK TOWER provides connections for both AM and FM reception.

  • FM Connection: Locate the FM antenna input on your receiver (usually a coaxial jack, 75-ohm). Connect the coaxial cable from the TERK TOWER to this input. Ensure a secure fit; if the connector feels too snug, gently adjust the outer shell to ensure proper contact without forcing.
  • AM Connection: Locate the AM antenna terminals on your receiver (typically two screw terminals). Connect the two-wire AM cable from the TERK TOWER to these terminals. Ensure proper polarity if indicated by your receiver.

3. Power Connection

Connect the provided power adapter to the power input on the TERK TOWER antenna, then plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The antenna requires power for its amplification features.

Operating Instructions

Once connected and powered, operate your TERK TOWER antenna as follows:

  • Power On: The antenna's power light (often integrated with the amplification control) will illuminate when the radio is turned on, indicating it is receiving power and active.
  • Tuning: Tune your radio or receiver to your desired AM or FM station.
  • Amplification Adjustment: The TERK TOWER features an amplification control (often a dial or knob). Adjust this control carefully. Increasing amplification too much can sometimes introduce noise or distort stronger signals. The goal is to find the optimal setting that provides clear reception for your desired stations, especially weaker ones, without over-amplifying.
  • Fine-Tuning Placement: Even after initial setup, slight adjustments to the antenna's position or orientation can significantly impact reception quality for specific stations.

Maintenance

The TERK TOWER antenna requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-lasting performance:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the antenna's surface. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
  • Handling: Handle the antenna with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Environment: Keep the antenna in a dry environment, away from excessive moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your TERK TOWER antenna, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No reception or poor signal quality.
  • Incorrect connections.
  • Antenna placement.
  • Interference from other electronics.
  • Amplification setting.
  • Ensure all cables (AM, FM, power) are securely connected to both the antenna and the receiver.
  • Experiment with different antenna locations, moving it away from electronic devices and large metal objects.
  • Adjust the amplification dial slowly to find the optimal setting for the desired station.
  • Check if the coaxial connector is fully seated on the receiver's jack.
Excessive static or buzzing noise.
  • Interference from nearby electronics (Wi-Fi routers, power adapters).
  • Over-amplification.
  • Poor grounding or connection.
  • Relocate the antenna further away from sources of electromagnetic interference.
  • Reduce the amplification level.
  • Ensure all connections are firm and free from damage.
Antenna power light is off.
  • Power adapter not connected or faulty.
  • Receiver not powered on.
  • Verify the power adapter is securely plugged into both the antenna and a working electrical outlet.
  • Ensure your radio or receiver is turned on.
