Setup
Power Source
The TI-5018 calculator operates using a dual power system: solar power and a battery backup. For optimal performance, ensure the solar panel is exposed to sufficient light. The calculator also includes a pre-installed LR44 alkaline battery for use in low-light conditions or as a backup.
Battery Installation/Replacement
The calculator comes with one LR44 battery pre-installed. If the display becomes dim or unresponsive in low light, the battery may need replacement.
- Turn the calculator OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the calculator.
- Using a small screwdriver, open the battery compartment cover.
- Remove the old LR44 battery and insert a new one, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it.
Note: Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
Operating Instructions
Basic Operations
- Power ON: The calculator powers on automatically when exposed to light or by pressing any key if already in a low-power state.
- Power OFF: Press the OFF button to turn off the calculator and conserve battery life.
- Clear Entry (CE): Press CE to clear the last entered number without affecting previous calculations or memory.
- Clear All (C/AC): Press C/AC once to clear the current entry. Press it twice to clear all calculations and reset the calculator.
- Number Entry: Use the number keys 0-9 and 00 to input values.
- Decimal Point: Press . for decimal calculations.
- Arithmetic Operations: Use + (addition), - (subtraction), x (multiplication), and / (division).
- Equals: Press = to display the result of a calculation.
- Backspace: Use the ← key to delete the last digit entered.
Memory Functions
- Memory Plus (M+): Adds the displayed value to the memory.
- Memory Minus (M-): Subtracts the displayed value from the memory.
- Memory Recall (MR): Displays the current value stored in memory.
- Memory Clear (MC): Clears the value stored in memory.
Advanced Functions
- Grand Total (GT): Accumulates the results of all calculations performed using the = key. Press GT to display the grand total.
- Markup (MU): Used for calculating selling prices based on cost and desired profit margin.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the calculator, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild detergent, then wipe dry immediately. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or spray directly onto the calculator.
Storage
Store the calculator in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, ensure the calculator is turned off.
Troubleshooting
- Display is dim or blank:
- Ensure the solar panel is exposed to sufficient light.
- The battery may be low or depleted. Replace the LR44 battery as described in the "Battery Installation/Replacement" section.
- Calculator is unresponsive:
- Press the C/AC button twice to clear all operations.
- Check the battery. If the issue persists, try replacing the battery.
- Incorrect calculation results:
- Ensure numbers and operations are entered correctly.
- Clear all previous calculations by pressing C/AC twice.
