Setup

1. Power Connection

The Sharp EL-1801V calculator operates on AC power. Connect the provided AC adapter to the power input port on the calculator and then plug it into a standard electrical outlet. Ensure the connection is secure.

The calculator also requires 1 Lithium Metal battery, likely for memory backup. Refer to the battery compartment for installation instructions if memory retention is desired when the unit is unplugged.

2. Paper Roll Installation

  1. Open the paper roll cover, typically located at the rear top of the calculator.
  2. Place a new paper roll into the compartment, ensuring the paper feeds from the bottom of the roll.
  3. Feed the leading edge of the paper through the printer mechanism slot until it emerges from the front.
  4. Close the paper roll cover.

3. Ink Roller Installation/Replacement

The calculator uses a standard ink roller for two-color printing. To install or replace:

  1. Ensure the calculator is turned off.
  2. Locate the ink roller compartment, usually near the print head.
  3. Carefully remove the old ink roller if replacing.
  4. Insert the new ink roller, ensuring it is correctly seated and aligned with the print mechanism.
  5. Close the compartment.

Basic Calculations

  • Addition (+): Enter the first number, press +, enter the second number, press +.
  • Subtraction (-): Enter the first number, press -, enter the second number, press -.
  • Multiplication (x): Enter the first number, press x, enter the second number, press =.
  • Division (÷): Enter the first number, press ÷, enter the second number, press =.
  • Equals (=): Completes a calculation and displays the result.
  • Clear Entry (C/CE): Clears the last entered number. Press twice to clear the entire calculation.

Special Functions

  • TAX+ / TAX-: Used for adding or subtracting a pre-set tax rate. To set the tax rate, refer to the full user guide.
  • GT (Grand Total): Accumulates the results of all calculations. Pressing GT displays the grand total.
  • M+ / M- (Memory Plus / Memory Minus): Adds or subtracts the displayed value to/from the memory.
  • RM/CM (Recall Memory / Clear Memory): Recalls the value stored in memory. Pressing twice clears the memory.
  • % (Percent): Performs percentage calculations.
  • AVG (Average): Calculates the average of entered values.
  • COST / SELL / MGN (Cost / Sell / Margin): Dedicated keys for profit margin calculations.

  • F63210A (Decimal Selector): Controls the number of decimal places displayed.
  • OFF P P.IC (Print Selector): Controls printing functionality.
    • OFF: Printing is disabled.
    • P: Prints entries and results.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Calculator

To maintain optimal performance and appearance, regularly clean your calculator:

  • Disconnect the power adapter before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the calculator.
