3. Components

Familiarize yourself with the main components of your KRUPS Universal Metal Slicer:

  • Motor Unit: The main body housing the motor and controls.
  • German Engineered Blade: The circular cutting blade.
  • Carriage Feeder: The sliding tray that holds food to be sliced.
  • Food Grip: A plastic component used to secure food on the carriage feeder and protect hands.
  • Thickness Adjustment Knob: Controls the distance between the blade and the food carriage, determining slice thickness.
  • Dual Safety Switch: Requires simultaneous activation with the power button for operation.
  • Slice-Collecting Tray: A tray positioned to catch sliced food.
  • Suctioned Feet: Located at the base for stability.

4. Setup

  1. Unpack all components and remove any packaging materials.
  2. Place the slicer on a clean, dry, and stable countertop. Ensure the suctioned feet are firmly attached to the surface.
  3. Ensure the blade is correctly installed and secured.
  4. Position the slice-collecting tray beneath the blade area to catch sliced food.
  5. Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Prepare Food: Ensure the food item (meat, cheese, vegetable) is appropriately sized to fit on the carriage feeder. For best results, chill soft meats or cheeses slightly before slicing.
  2. Adjust Slice Thickness: Turn the thickness adjustment knob to select the desired slice thickness, ranging from 0 mm (wafer-thin) to 22 mm.
  3. Load Food: Place the food item onto the carriage feeder. Secure it firmly with the food grip, ensuring your fingers are protected and away from the blade.
  4. Activate Slicer: With one hand, slide the dual safety switch to the "ON" position. Simultaneously, with the same hand, press and hold the power button. The blade will begin to rotate.
  5. Slice Food: Gently push the carriage feeder towards the rotating blade using the food grip. Move the food back and forth across the blade to slice.
  6. Collect Slices: Sliced food will fall onto the slice-collecting tray.
  7. Stop Slicer: Release the power button to stop the blade. Always return the thickness adjustment knob to the "0" position after use to cover the blade for safety.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your slicer. Always unplug the appliance before cleaning.

  1. Disassembly: Carefully remove the blade and the carriage feeder. Refer to the product diagram for specific removal instructions.
  2. Cleaning Blade and Carriage: The removable blade and carriage feeder are dishwasher safe. Alternatively, wash them by hand with warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  3. Cleaning Motor Unit: Wipe the motor unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the motor unit in water.
  4. Reassembly: Once all parts are clean and dry, reassemble the slicer, ensuring the blade and carriage feeder are securely in place.
  5. Storage: Store the slicer in a dry place. The compact design with hidden cord storage allows for easy cabinet storage.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Slicer does not turn on. Not plugged in; power outage; safety switch not engaged; power button not held. Check power connection; ensure both safety switch and power button are pressed simultaneously and continuously.
Slices are uneven or ragged. Blade is dull; food not properly secured; incorrect thickness setting. Ensure food is firmly held by the food grip; adjust thickness setting; consider blade replacement if consistently dull.
Slicer moves during operation. Suctioned feet not properly engaged; unstable surface. Ensure slicer is on a clean, dry, flat surface and press down to engage suctioned feet.
