4. Setup and Assembly Instructions

This add-on unit is designed for tool-less assembly. Follow these steps carefully to ensure a stable and secure shelving unit. It must be attached to an existing Safco Industrial Wire Shelving Starter Unit.

  1. Prepare the Area: Choose a level surface for assembly. Ensure sufficient space around the existing starter unit where the add-on unit will be attached.
  2. Attach Posts: Position the two vertical posts of the add-on unit next to the existing starter unit's posts where you intend to connect them.
  3. Install Clips: For each shelf, attach four snap-together clips to the vertical posts at the desired height. Ensure the clips are positioned at the same height on all posts for even shelf placement. The clips should snap securely into the grooves on the posts.
  4. Place Shelves: Carefully lower a wire shelf onto the installed clips. Press down firmly on all four corners of the shelf until it seats securely over the clips. A rubber mallet can be used gently to tap the shelf into place if needed.
  5. Connect to Starter Unit: The add-on unit's shelves will connect to the starter unit's shelves using additional clips (typically included with the starter unit or add-on unit). Ensure these connection points are secure to form a continuous unit.
  6. Repeat for Remaining Shelves: Install the remaining three shelves following steps 3 and 4, adjusting heights as desired.
  7. Final Check: Once all shelves are in place, gently shake the entire shelving system to ensure it is stable. Verify all clips are securely fastened and shelves are level.

5. Operating Instructions

The Safco Industrial Wire Shelving Add-On Unit is designed for heavy-duty storage. To ensure safe and effective use:

  • Load Distribution: Always distribute weight evenly across each shelf. Avoid concentrating heavy items in one small area.
  • Weight Limits: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 1000 lbs. per shelf or the overall unit capacity of 2500 lbs. (when evenly distributed). Overloading can lead to structural failure and injury.
  • Stability: Ensure the unit is always connected to a stable starter unit. Avoid placing items that could cause the unit to become top-heavy or unstable.
  • Placement: Place heavier items on lower shelves for increased stability.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will prolong the life and appearance of your shelving unit.

  • Cleaning: Wipe down shelves and posts with a damp cloth and mild detergent as needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the powder coat finish.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all snap-together clips and connections to ensure they remain secure. Tighten any loose connections.
  • Damage: If any part of the unit becomes bent or damaged, discontinue use and replace the affected components to maintain structural integrity.
