Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the sewing machine and all accessories from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Power Connection:
    • AC Adapter: Insert the small end of the power adapter into the DC input jack on the machine. Plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet.
    • Battery Operation: If using batteries, open the battery compartment (usually on the bottom or back) and insert 4 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
  3. Placement: Place the sewing machine on a stable, flat surface with adequate lighting.
  4. Initial Threading Check: Although the machine comes pre-threaded, it is good practice to familiarize yourself with the threading path. Ensure the upper thread is correctly routed and the bobbin is properly seated in its drop-in compartment.

Operating Instructions

Basic Operation

  1. Power On/Off: Locate the ON/OFF switch, typically on the side or front panel. Switch it to "ON" to power the machine. The integrated light will illuminate.
  2. Speed Control: The machine features dual speed control. Select "LOW" for slower, more precise stitching, or "HIGH" for faster sewing. This control is usually a switch or button near the power switch.
  3. Fabric Placement: Lift the presser foot using the lever located behind the needle bar. Place your fabric under the presser foot, aligning the edge with the desired seam allowance. Lower the presser foot.
  4. Starting to Sew: Gently press the foot pedal (if included) or activate the start button on the machine. Guide the fabric smoothly as the machine stitches. Do not pull or push the fabric forcefully.
  5. Ending a Seam: When you reach the end of your seam, stop the machine. Lift the presser foot. Gently pull the fabric away from the needle, leaving a few inches of thread. Cut the threads using scissors or the built-in thread cutter (if available).

Changing the Bobbin

The Euro-Pro Dressmaker 998B features an easy drop-in bobbin system:

  1. Ensure the machine is turned OFF and unplugged.
  2. Locate the bobbin cover plate, usually a clear plastic cover on the needle plate. Slide or lift it to open.
  3. Remove the empty bobbin.
  4. Insert a new, wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction (refer to markings on the bobbin case or machine).
  5. Pull the bobbin thread through the tension spring and into the thread guide slot.
  6. Replace the bobbin cover plate securely.

Changing the Needle

Always use the correct type and size of needle for your fabric. Replace bent or dull needles immediately.

  1. Turn OFF and unplug the machine.
  2. Lower the presser foot.
  3. Loosen the needle clamp screw (usually on the side of the needle bar) by turning it counter-clockwise.
  4. Carefully pull the old needle straight down and out.
  5. Insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine. Push it up as far as it will go into the needle clamp.
  6. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your sewing machine.

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs using a small brush or lint remover. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
  • Lubrication: Refer to the specific lubrication points in your machine's detailed diagram (if provided in a physical manual). Use only sewing machine oil.
  • Needle Replacement: Change your needle frequently, especially after 8-10 hours of sewing or when it shows signs of dullness or bending.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the machine in a dry, dust-free environment. Use a dust cover if available.
