Setup

1. Power Source

The CX-R122 operates on two (2) AA batteries (not included) or an optional DC power cord. To install batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  2. Slide the cover open.
  3. Insert two AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Alternatively, connect a compatible DC power adapter (not included) to the DC input jack on the unit.

2. Inserting a Microcassette

To insert a microcassette tape:

  1. Open the cassette compartment door.
  2. Place the microcassette into the compartment with the open edge facing forward and the tape side facing up.
  3. Gently close the cassette compartment door until it clicks into place.

Operating Instructions

Recording

To record audio:

  1. Ensure a microcassette is inserted and the unit has power.
  2. Press the RECORD button. The record indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Speak clearly into the built-in microphone, or use an external microphone connected to the microphone jack.
  4. To stop recording, press the STOP/EJECT button.

Voice Activated System (VAS): When VAS is enabled, the recorder will automatically start recording when sound is detected and pause when silence occurs, conserving tape and battery life. Refer to the unit's controls for the VAS switch.

2-Speed Recording: The CX-R122 supports two recording speeds. A slower speed allows for longer recording times on a single cassette, while a faster speed offers better audio fidelity. Select the desired speed using the speed switch.

Playback

To play back recorded audio:

  1. Ensure a microcassette with recorded content is inserted.
  2. Press the PLAY button. Audio will play through the built-in speaker or connected headphones.
  3. Adjust the volume using the volume control dial.
  4. To stop playback, press the STOP/EJECT button.

Cue/Fast Forward & Review/Rewind: Use the FF/CUE button to fast forward through the tape and the REW/REVIEW button to rewind. During playback, holding these buttons allows for quick review or cueing of audio.

Telephone Recording (Optional Accessory)

The CX-R122 may be used with a compatible telephone pickup accessory (such as the included suction cup telephone pick-up) to record telephone conversations. Follow these steps:

  1. Mount the suction cup of the telephone pick-up to the earpiece of your telephone handset.
  2. Plug the pick-up's 3.5mm jack into the microphone (MIC) input jack on the CX-R122.
  3. Press the RECORD button on the CX-R122 when your party answers the call.
