Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest Cuisinart Repair Center for examination, repair, or adjustment.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Cuisinart may cause injuries.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  • To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.

Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the waffle maker from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future storage or shipping.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wipe the non-stick baking plates with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any dust or manufacturing residues. Dry thoroughly.
  3. Placement: Place the waffle maker on a clean, flat, stable, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the unit.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. The red indicator light will illuminate, signaling that the unit is preheating.
  5. First Waffle (Seasoning): For optimal non-stick performance and to eliminate any residual manufacturing odors, it is recommended to cook a "throw-away" waffle during the first use.
    • Set the browning control to a high setting (e.g., 4 or 5).
    • Wait for the green "Ready to Bake" light to illuminate.
    • Lightly coat the plates with cooking spray or a small amount of vegetable oil.
    • Pour a small amount of batter (approximately 1/4 cup) onto the lower plate and close the lid.
    • Allow the waffle to cook until the green "Ready to Eat" light illuminates, and then continue cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes. This extended cooking helps to season the plates.
    • Discard this first waffle.

Operating Instructions

Preparing for Baking

  1. Preheating: Close the lid and plug the waffle maker into an electrical outlet. The red indicator light will turn on. Allow the unit to preheat until the green "Ready to Bake" light illuminates. This indicates the waffle maker has reached the optimal baking temperature.
  2. Adjusting Browning Control: Use the slide control on the front of the unit to select your desired browning level from 1 (lightest) to 5 (darkest).
  3. Applying Cooking Spray (Optional): For best results and to ensure easy release, lightly coat the top and bottom baking plates with cooking spray or brush with a small amount of vegetable oil before baking each waffle.

Baking Waffles

  1. Adding Batter: Pour approximately 1/2 cup of waffle batter onto the center of the lower baking plate. Distribute the batter evenly, ensuring it fills the grid. Do not overfill, as this can cause overflow.
  2. Closing the Lid: Carefully close the lid. The red indicator light will turn on again, signifying that the waffle is cooking.
  3. Cooking Time: The waffle will cook until the green "Ready to Eat" light illuminates. This light indicates the waffle has reached the selected browning level.
  4. Removing Waffle: Once the green light appears, open the lid. Use a heat-resistant plastic or wooden utensil to carefully remove the cooked waffle. Do not use metal utensils, as they can damage the non-stick coating.
  5. Subsequent Waffles: Close the lid and wait for the green "Ready to Bake" light to illuminate again before adding more batter.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  1. Cool Down: Always unplug the waffle maker from the electrical outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Cleaning Plates: The non-stick baking plates are designed for easy cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth or sponge to wipe away any food residue. For stubborn batter, pour a small amount of cooking oil onto the batter and let it sit for 5 minutes, then wipe with a paper towel or soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the non-stick coating.
  3. Cleaning Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the waffle maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the unit in water or other liquids.
  4. Storage: The waffle maker is designed to stand upright for compact storage. Wrap the power cord securely around the base of the unit.

Troubleshooting

  • Waffles Sticking:
    • Ensure the non-stick plates are clean and free of residue.
    • Always preheat the waffle maker until the green "Ready to Bake" light illuminates before adding batter.
    • Lightly coat the plates with cooking spray or oil before each waffle, especially if using a low-fat batter.
    • Ensure your waffle batter contains sufficient oil or fat. Adding a small amount of vegetable oil to the batter can improve release.
    • Avoid opening the lid too early. Wait for the green "Ready to Eat" light to ensure the waffle is fully cooked and has firmed up, which aids in easy release.
  • Uneven Browning:
    • Ensure the waffle maker is fully preheated before adding batter.
    • Distribute batter evenly across the entire lower plate.
    • Adjust the browning control setting to a higher number for darker, crispier waffles, or a lower number for lighter waffles.
  • Waffle Maker Not Heating:
    • Check that the power cord is securely plugged into a functional electrical outlet.
    • Verify that the outlet is receiving power.
