2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Unboxing and Components
Carefully unpack the speakers and ensure all components are present. The package includes two Bose 251 Environmental Speakers, weather-resistant mounting brackets, and associated hardware.
2.2 Speaker Placement
For optimal sound distribution, place the speakers to cover your desired listening area. The Articulated Array design helps reproduce sound over a larger area. Speakers should be placed at least seven feet apart from each other and at a height that is slightly higher than ear level for the best protection and sound quality. Consider placing them under an overhang for extended longevity.

2.3 Mounting the Speakers
Use the provided weather-resistant mounting brackets and hardware for secure installation. The brackets allow for easy adjustment of the speaker angle to direct sound towards the listening area. Ensure the mounting surface is sturdy enough to support the speaker's weight.

2.4 Wiring Connections
The Bose 251 speakers are compatible with amplifiers and receivers rated from 10 to 200 watts per channel. Connect the speaker wires to the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals on the back of each speaker, ensuring correct polarity. Use 16-gauge weatherproof speaker wire for runs up to 50 feet to maintain good contact and prevent moisture ingress.

4. Maintenance
The Bose 251 Environmental Speakers are built for durability and require minimal maintenance. Their glass-filled polypropylene cabinet and weather-resistant hardware ensure long-term performance in harsh outdoor conditions. Periodically inspect the speaker and mounting hardware for any signs of wear or damage. Clean the speaker grilles and cabinet with a soft, damp cloth as needed to remove dirt or debris.
5. Troubleshooting
- No Sound: Ensure the amplifier/receiver is powered on and the correct input source is selected. Check all speaker wire connections for proper contact and polarity.
- Distorted Sound: Verify that the amplifier's wattage is within the recommended range (10-200 watts per channel). Reduce the volume on the amplifier/receiver and audio source. Check speaker wire connections for any fraying or short circuits.
- Intermittent Sound: Inspect all wiring for loose connections or damage. Ensure the audio source is stable.
- Poor Bass Response: Confirm proper speaker placement and ensure the multi-chamber bass enclosure is not obstructed.
