Setup
1. Battery Installation
The ICD-B5 operates on two AAA batteries (not included). To install:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
- Slide the cover open in the direction indicated by the arrow.
- Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as marked inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely until it clicks into place.
2. Initial Power On
After installing batteries, the device should power on automatically or by pressing the POWER button. The display will illuminate, showing the current time and recording mode.
Operating Instructions
Recording Audio
- Select a Folder: Press the FOLDER button to cycle through available folders (e.g., Folder A, Folder B). The display will show the active folder.
- Adjust Microphone Sensitivity: Press the MIC SENS button to toggle between High (for distant sounds) and Low (for close-range sounds) sensitivity. The current setting will be displayed.
- Start Recording: Press the REC/PAUSE button. The recording indicator will light up, and the recording time will begin counting on the display.
- Pause Recording: During recording, press the REC/PAUSE button again to pause. The indicator will flash. Press it again to resume recording.
- Stop Recording: Press the STOP button. The recording will be saved to the selected folder.
Playback Audio
- Select a File: Use the REW (rewind) or FF (fast forward) buttons to navigate through recorded files. The file number will be shown on the display.
- Start Playback: Press the PLAY button. Audio will play through the built-in speaker or connected headphones.
- Adjust Volume: Use the VOL + and VOL - buttons on the side of the unit to adjust playback volume.
- Pause Playback: Press the PLAY button again to pause playback. Press again to resume.
- Stop Playback: Press the STOP button.
- Fast Forward/Rewind: During playback, hold down the FF or REW buttons to quickly scan through the audio.
Using the Index Mark Function
The INDEX button allows you to mark specific points within a recording for easy navigation. During recording or playback, press the INDEX button to insert an index mark. During playback, use the INDEX button to jump between marked points.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Unit
Wipe the exterior of the recorder with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong detergents, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
Battery Care
- Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
- Replace all batteries at the same time with new ones of the same type.
- Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
Storage
Store the recorder in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Avoid storing near strong magnetic fields.
