Setup
1. Powering the Radio
The ATS-505P can be powered by either AA batteries or the included AC adapter.
Battery Installation
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
- Insert four (4) AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
AC Adapter Connection
- Connect the small plug of the AC adapter to the DC IN jack on the side of the radio.
- Plug the AC adapter into a standard wall outlet.
2. Antenna Connection
For optimal reception, especially on Shortwave bands, extend the telescopic antenna or connect the external ANT-60 SW reel antenna.
- Telescopic Antenna: Extend the built-in telescopic antenna fully for FM and some SW reception. Adjust its angle for best signal.
- ANT-60 SW Reel Antenna: For enhanced Shortwave reception, plug the ANT-60 reel antenna into the external antenna jack. Unwind the reel antenna and position it in an open area, away from metal objects or electrical interference.
Operating Instructions
1. Turning On/Off
Press the POWER button to turn the radio on or off.
2. Band Selection
Press the BAND button repeatedly to cycle through FM, MW (AM), LW, and SW bands. The selected band will be displayed on the LCD screen.
3. Tuning Methods
The ATS-505P offers several tuning methods:
- 10-Key Pad Direct Frequency Access: Enter the desired frequency directly using the numeric keypad and press ENTER.
- Auto Scan: Press the SCAN button to automatically scan and stop at the next strong station.
- Manual Tuning: Use the TUNING UP/DOWN buttons or the rotary tuning knob to manually adjust the frequency.
- Memory Recall: Press the MEMORY button and then use the numeric keypad or tuning buttons to select a stored station.
- Rotary Tuning: Rotate the tuning knob for precise frequency adjustment.
4. Single Side Band (SSB) Reception
For receiving SSB transmissions, typically found on Shortwave bands:
- Select a Shortwave band.
- Tune to the desired SSB frequency.

5. Memory Presets
The radio can store up to 45 stations in memory.
