Care and Cleaning
Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and performance of your mixer.
- Before Cleaning: Always unplug the mixer from the electrical outlet.
- Mixer Stand: Wipe the mixer stand with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the mixer in water.
- Stainless Steel Bowl: The 5-quart stainless steel bowl is dishwasher-safe. It can also be washed by hand with warm, soapy water.
- Flat Beater and Dough Hook: These accessories are coated and should be washed by hand with warm, soapy water and dried thoroughly. Do not wash in a dishwasher, as the harsh detergents can cause the coating to degrade and tarnish, potentially leaving a gray residue.
- Wire Whip: The wire whip is made of stainless steel and is dishwasher-safe. It can also be washed by hand.
- Pouring Shield: The pouring shield is dishwasher-safe (top rack recommended) or can be washed by hand.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your mixer, refer to the following common solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Mixer does not start. | Not plugged in; power outlet not functioning; speed control not set. | Ensure the mixer is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check the speed control is set to a speed other than 'Off/0'. |
| Motor head vibrates or "walks" during operation. | Tilt-head lock lever not in 'Lock' position; heavy dough or mixture. | Ensure the tilt-head lock lever is fully engaged in the 'Lock' position. Reduce batch size for very heavy doughs. |
| Dough "walks up" the dough hook. | Batch size too large; dough consistency. | Reduce the amount of dough being kneaded. Lightly spray the dough hook with non-stick spray before use. |
| Attachments (flat beater, dough hook) tarnish or turn gray. | Washed in dishwasher. | These attachments are not dishwasher-safe. Hand wash only with warm, soapy water. |
| Beater hits the bottom of the bowl or does not reach ingredients. | Beater-to-bowl clearance needs adjustment. | Refer to the full user manual for instructions on adjusting the beater-to-bowl clearance screw. |
