- AUTO (Green): Fully automatic mode for simple point-and-shoot operation. The camera selects all settings.
- P (Program Auto): The camera sets both shutter speed and aperture for optimal exposure. You can shift the program for different creative effects.
- S (Shutter-Priority Auto): You select the shutter speed, and the camera automatically sets the aperture. Ideal for controlling motion.
- A (Aperture-Priority Auto): You select the aperture, and the camera automatically sets the shutter speed. Ideal for controlling depth of field.
- M (Manual): You manually set both shutter speed and aperture. The camera's light meter assists in achieving correct exposure.
2. Focus Control
The N65 offers both autofocus and manual focus capabilities:
- Autofocus (AF): Set the lens to AF mode. The camera will automatically focus when the shutter button is pressed halfway. The N65 features a single autofocus point.
- Manual Focus (MF): Set the lens to MF mode. Rotate the focus ring on the lens until your subject appears sharp in the viewfinder.
3. Exposure Control
In P, S, and A modes, the camera automatically determines the correct exposure. In Manual mode, you control both shutter speed and aperture. The viewfinder includes a light meter to guide your settings. Adjusting the shutter speed is done via the main command dial, and aperture is adjusted by holding the EV button and rotating the command dial.
4. Flash Modes
The Nikon N65 does not have a built-in flash. An external flash unit can be mounted on the hot shoe for additional lighting. The camera supports various flash modes depending on the external flash unit used.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
- Camera Body: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the camera body. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid using organic solvents.
- Lens: Use a lens brush or blower to remove dust. For smudges, use a soft lens cloth and a specialized lens cleaning solution. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
- Viewfinder/LCD: Use a soft, dry cloth.
2. Storage
- When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Store the camera in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
- Keep the lens capped and the camera body capped when the lens is removed.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
- Camera does not power on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are fresh.
- "Err" message in display: This often indicates a film loading error or a communication issue with the lens. Re-load film carefully or re-attach the lens. If the issue persists, consult a service center.
- Film not advancing: Ensure the film leader is correctly engaged with the take-up spool.
- Images are too dark/light: Adjust exposure settings (shutter speed, aperture) or use a different shooting mode. Ensure the light meter in the viewfinder indicates correct exposure.
