Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper use and care of your Memorex 4X 700 MB/80-Minute CD-RW Discs. These re-writable compact discs are designed for storing digital data, including files, documents, and audio, allowing for multiple recording and erasing cycles. Please read these instructions carefully to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your discs.
Setup
Unpacking the Discs
Your Memorex CD-RW discs are supplied in a 25-pack spindle. Carefully remove the top cover of the spindle. To access a disc, gently lift it from the spindle by holding the edges. Avoid touching the recording surface.
Compatibility Requirements
These CD-RW discs are designed for use with computer CD burners that support CD-RW media and 1X-4X write speeds. They are not intended for use with standalone audio CD recorders unless specifically stated by the recorder's manufacturer. Ensure your CD burner's firmware and software are up to date for best compatibility.

Operating
Recording Data or Music
- Insert Disc: Place a Memorex CD-RW disc into your computer's CD burner drive with the label side facing up.
- Launch Software: Open your preferred CD burning software (e.g., Windows Media Player, Nero, Roxio, or your operating system's built-in burning utility).
- Select Project Type: Choose whether you want to create a data disc, an audio CD, or copy files.
- Add Files: Drag and drop the files or audio tracks you wish to record onto the disc. Ensure the total size does not exceed 700 MB or 80 minutes.
- Set Write Speed: Select a write speed compatible with your discs and drive, up to 4X. Using a lower speed can sometimes improve recording reliability.
- Start Recording: Initiate the burning process. Do not interrupt the process until it is complete.
Erasing and Rewriting
One of the key features of CD-RW discs is their re-writability. To erase content and reuse the disc:
- Insert Disc: Place the CD-RW disc into your computer's CD burner drive.
- Launch Software: Open your CD burning software.
- Select Erase Option: Locate the 'Erase Disc' or 'Format Disc' option within your software. You may have the choice between a quick erase or a full erase. A full erase is more thorough but takes longer.
- Confirm Erase: Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm and begin the erasing process.
- Rewrite: Once erased, the disc is ready for new data or audio to be recorded as described above.
Maintenance
Proper Storage
- Store discs in their original spindle or in individual jewel cases to protect them from dust, scratches, and direct sunlight.
- Keep discs in a cool, dry place, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
Cleaning Discs
- If a disc becomes dirty, gently wipe the recording surface with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Wipe from the center of the disc outwards in a straight line, rather than in a circular motion, to avoid damaging the data tracks.
- For stubborn smudges, use a specialized CD/DVD cleaning solution applied to the cloth, not directly to the disc.
Handling Precautions
- Always handle discs by their edges or the center hole.
- Avoid bending the discs or applying excessive pressure.
- Do not attach labels or write on the recording surface with sharp objects, as this can damage the disc. Use a soft, felt-tip marker designed for optical media if labeling is necessary.
Troubleshooting
Recording Errors
- Disc Not Recognized: Ensure the disc is inserted correctly and your drive supports CD-RW media. Check for physical damage or dirt on the disc.
- Burning Failed: Try reducing the write speed. Close other applications running in the background to free up system resources. Ensure there is sufficient free space on your hard drive for temporary files.
- Incompatible Disc: Verify that your CD burner is compatible with 1X-4X CD-RW discs. Some older drives may not support certain media types.
Playback Issues
- Disc Not Playing: Clean the disc thoroughly as described in the Maintenance section. Check for deep scratches or cracks.
- Skipping or Stuttering: This can indicate a dirty or damaged disc, or an issue with the playback device. Try the disc in another player to isolate the problem.
- Data Corruption: If data appears corrupted, the recording process may have been interrupted or the disc may be faulty. Re-record the data onto a new disc if possible.
