Sony SRSP7

Sony SRS-P7 Passive Speaker System

Model: SRSP7 User Manual

Introduction

The Sony SRS-P7 is a passive portable speaker system designed for use with various audio devices. These speakers do not require batteries or an external power source, drawing power directly from the connected device's audio output. Their lightweight and compact design makes them ideal for tabletop use or portability.

The system features a Bass Reflex Duct design to enhance low-frequency output, providing improved sound quality for its size. Universal connectivity is provided via a standard stereo mini-plug input.

Package Contents

Please check that your package contains the following items:

  • Sony SRS-P7 Passive Speakers (Left and Right units)
  • Integrated Connection Cord with Stereo Mini-Plug

Setup

  1. Unpack the Speakers: Carefully remove the SRS-P7 speakers from their packaging.
  2. Separate Speakers (Optional): The two speaker units are connected by a single cord. You can gently pull the cords apart to increase the distance between the speakers for a wider stereo soundstage, up to approximately 1 meter per speaker from the central connection point.
  3. Connect to Audio Device: Insert the stereo mini-plug (3.5mm jack) at the end of the connection cord into the headphone output or audio output jack of your audio device (e.g., MP3 player, smartphone, laptop, CD player).
  4. Position Speakers: Place the speakers on a stable, flat surface. For optimal sound, position them facing the listener.

Note: The SRS-P7 speakers are passive and draw power directly from the audio source. The volume and sound quality will depend on the output power of the connected device. Some devices with low audio output may result in lower volume levels.

Operating

Once connected, the Sony SRS-P7 speakers operate by playing audio from your connected device. There are no external controls on the speakers themselves.

  • Volume Control: Adjust the volume directly on your connected audio device.
  • Power: The speakers are powered by the audio signal from your device. They will function as long as your device is playing audio and is powered on.
  • Portability: The speakers can be joined together for compact storage and easy transport.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the speaker surfaces with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the speakers in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The speakers can be joined together for compact storage.
  • Avoid Moisture: While durable, these speakers are not waterproof. Avoid exposing them to water or high humidity to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

  • No Sound or Very Low Volume:
    • Ensure the stereo mini-plug is fully inserted into your audio device's output jack.
    • Check the volume level on your audio device and increase it.
    • Verify that your audio device is playing sound and its internal speakers (if any) are working.
    • As passive speakers, the SRS-P7 relies on the audio device's output power. Some devices (e.g., certain smartphones or laptops) may have lower audio output, resulting in quieter sound. Consider using with devices known for stronger audio output.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the volume on your audio device. Overdriving the speakers can cause distortion.
    • Ensure the audio source itself is not distorted.
    • Check the connection for any loose contacts.
  • Only One Speaker Working:
    • Ensure the stereo mini-plug is fully inserted and rotated slightly to ensure good contact.
    • Test with another audio device to rule out an issue with the source device's output.
