  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Slide or unlatch the cover to open it.
  3. Insert the battery according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment.

  1. Open the camera back by sliding the latch on the side of the camera.
  2. Place a 35mm film cartridge into the film chamber on the left side, ensuring the film leader extends towards the take-up spool on the right.
  3. Gently pull the film leader across to the red or orange mark on the take-up spool.
  4. Close the camera back firmly until it clicks shut. The camera will automatically advance the film to the first frame. The frame counter on the LCD panel will display '1'.

3. Setting Date and Time

The Date version of the IQ Zoom 150 SL allows you to imprint the date or day and time on your photographs. Refer to Figure 3 for button locations.

  1. Press the "DATE" button to cycle through the date/time display modes (Year/Month/Day, Day/Hour/Minute, etc.).
  2. Use the "SET" or adjustment buttons (often indicated by arrows or +/-) to change the values for each segment (year, month, day, hour, minute).
  3. Continue pressing "DATE" to confirm settings and move to the next segment, or to select a blank setting if no imprint is desired.

Operating the Camera

1. Power On/Off

Press the power button (usually located near the shutter button) to turn the camera on. The lens will extend. To turn off, press the power button again. The camera will automatically retract the lens and shut off if left unused for three minutes.

2. Zoom Operation

Use the zoom buttons (often marked 'W' for Wide and 'T' for Telephoto) to adjust the focal length between 38mm and 150mm. The "Actual Image" zoom viewfinder will automatically adjust to show the framing area.

3. Focusing

  • Standard Autofocus: The camera utilizes a passive 5-point autofocus system. Simply point the camera at your subject and lightly press the shutter button halfway down. The camera will focus, and a focus indicator will appear in the viewfinder.
  • Spot Autofocus: For precise focusing on an off-center subject, activate spot autofocus (refer to your camera's specific button for this function, often labeled 'SPOT' or similar). This allows you to focus on a smaller area.
  • Infinity-Landscape Mode: This mode fixes the focus at infinity, ideal for distant subjects or shooting through glass/fences. Activate this mode when needed (check camera controls for specific button).

4. Exposure and Flash

  • Auto-Exposure: The sophisticated multi-pattern metering system automatically sets the correct exposure.
  • Flash Modes: The camera features various flash modes. Press the flash mode button (often indicated by a lightning bolt icon) to cycle through modes such as Auto Flash, Flash On, Flash Off, and Red-Eye Reduction.
  • Red-Eye Reduction: When selected, the camera emits a series of pre-flashes before the main flash to reduce the red-eye effect.
  • Automatic Backlight Compensation: The flash may fire automatically in backlit conditions to properly expose the subject.

5. Picture Format (Panorama)

The camera allows you to switch between standard and panorama picture formats at any point, even mid-roll. Locate the panorama lever (usually near the viewfinder or on the camera back) and slide it to select the desired format. Panorama format is ideal for landscapes and group photos.

6. Self-Timer and Remote Control

  • Self-Timer: Activate the self-timer mode (often indicated by a clock icon). The shutter will release approximately ten seconds after pressing the shutter button, allowing you to get into the picture.
  • Optional Remote Control: An optional remote control can be used for shutter release with a three-second delay, providing more control for group shots or long exposures.

7. Taking a Picture

Once the camera is powered on, film is loaded, and settings are adjusted:

  1. Frame your shot using the viewfinder.
  2. Gently press the shutter button halfway down to activate autofocus and exposure metering. Wait for the focus indicator to confirm focus.
  3. Press the shutter button fully down to take the picture. The camera will automatically advance the film to the next frame.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera body. For the lens, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid touching the lens surface directly. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the battery when the battery indicator on the LCD panel shows low power or when the camera fails to power on. Dispose of used batteries responsibly.
