Note: When using AC power, batteries are automatically disconnected. Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

4. Operating the AM/FM Radio

  1. Power On: Set the Function Selector to 'RADIO'.
  2. Select Band: Choose either 'AM' or 'FM' using the band selector switch.
  3. Tune Station: Rotate the Tuning Knob to select your desired radio station. The frequency will be indicated on the radio dial.
  4. Adjust Volume: Use the Volume Control to set the listening level.
  5. Improve Reception:
    • For FM reception, extend the telescopic antenna and adjust its angle for the best signal.
    • For AM reception, rotate the entire unit for optimal signal strength, as the AM antenna is internal.

5. Operating the Cassette Player

Loading a Cassette:

  1. Set the Function Selector to 'TAPE'.
  2. Press the 'STOP/EJECT' button to open the cassette compartment door.
  3. Insert a cassette tape with the exposed tape facing downwards and the side to be played facing you.
  4. Gently close the cassette compartment door until it clicks shut.

Playback:

  1. After loading the tape, press the 'PLAY' button. The tape will begin to play.
  2. Adjust the Volume Control to your preferred listening level.
  3. To stop playback, press the 'STOP/EJECT' button.
  4. To fast forward, press the 'F.FWD' button. Press 'STOP/EJECT' to stop fast forwarding.
  5. To rewind, press the 'REW' button. Press 'STOP/EJECT' to stop rewinding.

Auto-Reverse Function (if applicable):

If your unit features auto-reverse, the tape will automatically switch direction and play the other side once one side finishes. Consult the unit's specific markings or indicators for auto-reverse functionality.

6. Recording to Cassette

The Aiwa CS-P500 allows for one-touch recording from the built-in microphone or the radio.

Recording from Built-in Microphone:

  1. Load a blank or recordable cassette tape into the compartment.
  2. Set the Function Selector to 'TAPE'.
  3. Press the 'RECORD' button (usually red). The 'PLAY' button will also engage simultaneously.
  4. Speak clearly into the built-in microphone.
  5. To stop recording, press the 'STOP/EJECT' button.

Recording from Radio:

  1. Load a blank or recordable cassette tape.
  2. Set the Function Selector to 'RADIO' and tune to your desired station (see Section 4).
  3. Once the radio program you wish to record begins, press the 'RECORD' button. The 'PLAY' button will also engage.
  4. To stop recording, press the 'STOP/EJECT' button.

Note: Ensure the cassette tape has its record-protection tabs intact if you intend to record over existing material. If the tabs are removed, recording is prevented.

7. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning the Unit: Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Cassette Head Cleaning: Periodically clean the tape heads, pinch roller, and capstan with a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. This helps maintain sound quality.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for extended periods to prevent corrosion.
  • Storage: Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
