1. Introduction

The Brother P-Touch PT-1750 is an electronic labeling system designed for creating durable, laminated labels. It features a 15-character LCD display, supports two-line printing, and offers various text formatting options including 6 type sizes and 9 type styles. This device is ideal for organizing your home or office with clear, professional labels.

Key features include auto-underline, text framing, vertical and mirror printing, and 57 built-in symbols. The PT-1750 prints on various TZ label widths from 6mm to 18mm.

2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the PT-1750 labeling system and all accessories from its packaging. Ensure all components are present before proceeding.

2.2 Power Supply

The PT-1750 operates on 6 AA batteries (not included) or an optional AC adapter (not included). To install batteries, open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit and insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators. Close the cover securely.

2.3 Tape Cassette Installation

Open the tape cassette compartment cover. Insert a Brother TZ tape cassette into the compartment, ensuring it clicks into place. The tape should feed smoothly into the print head. Close the compartment cover.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Basic Label Creation

  1. Power On: Press the On/Off button to turn on the device.
  2. Type Text: Use the QWERTY keyboard to enter your desired text. The text will appear on the 15-character LCD display.
  3. Print: Press the Print button. The label maker will print and automatically cut the label.
  4. Remove Label: Gently peel the backing from the printed label and apply it to your desired surface.

3.2 Text Formatting

The PT-1750 offers various options to customize your labels:

  • Type Sizes: Select from 6 available type sizes to adjust text height.
  • Type Styles: Choose from 9 type styles, including bold, italic, outline, and shadow.
  • Mirror Printing: Print text in reverse for application on clear surfaces from the inside.
  • Underlining: Apply an underline to your text.
  • Text Framing: Add a decorative frame around your label text.
  • Symbols: Access 57 built-in symbols to enhance your labels.
  • Two-line Printing: Create labels with two lines of text for more information.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Print Head

If print quality degrades, clean the print head using a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Gently wipe the print head surface. Allow it to dry completely before use.

4.2 Cleaning the Cutter

Periodically check the cutter blade for any adhesive residue or tape fragments. Use a dry cotton swab or a soft brush to carefully remove any debris. Do not use sharp objects.

4.3 Tape Replacement

When the tape cassette is empty, replace it with a new Brother TZ tape cassette following the installation steps in Section 2.3.

5. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and not depleted, or that the AC adapter is properly connected.
  • Poor Print Quality: Clean the print head (Section 4.1). Ensure the tape cassette is correctly installed and not damaged.
  • Tape Not Feeding/Cutting: Check for tape jams or debris in the tape compartment or cutter area (Section 4.2). Ensure the tape cassette is properly seated.
  • Excessive Tape Waste: Adjust margin settings if available on your model to minimize leading and trailing tape length. Refer to the device's on-screen menu for margin options.
  • Display Errors: Try turning the unit off and on again. If the issue persists, remove and reinsert batteries.
