Setup
1. Connecting the VCR
Before connecting, ensure the VCR and your television are powered off. Use the provided cables to connect the VCR to your television and other audio/video equipment.

- Video/Audio Connection: Connect the AV RCA cable (yellow for video, white for left audio, red for right audio) from the VCR's 'LINE OUT' jacks to the corresponding 'VIDEO IN' and 'AUDIO IN' jacks on your television.
- Antenna/Cable Connection: Connect your antenna or cable TV line to the 'ANT IN' jack on the VCR. Then, connect a coaxial cable from the VCR's 'OUT RF (TO TV)' jack to the 'ANT IN' jack on your television.
- Front AV Inputs: For temporary connections like a camcorder or game system, use the 'LINE-2 IN' jacks located on the front of the VCR.

2. Initial Power On and Plug-and-Play Setup
After making all necessary connections, plug the VCR into a power outlet. The SLV-N51 features a plug-and-play setup that automatically tunes channels and sets the clock. Follow any on-screen prompts that may appear during the initial setup process.
Operating Instructions
1. Basic Playback
- Insert a VHS Tape: Gently insert a VHS cassette into the tape slot. The VCR will automatically load the tape.
- Play: Press the PLAY button on the VCR or remote control to begin playback.
- Stop: Press the STOP button to halt playback.
- Pause: Press the PAUSE button to temporarily freeze the picture. Press again to resume.
- Rewind/Fast Forward: Use the REW (rewind) and FF (fast forward) buttons to navigate through the tape.

The SLV-N51 supports Hi-fi stereo recording and MTS stereo broadcast reception.
- Manual Recording: Insert a recordable VHS tape. Tune to the desired channel. Press the REC button to start recording. Press STOP to end recording.
- Timer Recording: Utilize the 8-event/1-month programming timer for scheduled recordings. Refer to the on-screen display menu for detailed timer setup instructions.
3. Special Features
- Commercial Skip: Automatically advances the tape by 30 seconds when activated, allowing you to bypass commercials.
- Flash Rewind: Rewinds a T-120 tape completely in approximately 60 seconds.
- Instant Replay: Skips back a few seconds during playback to re-watch a scene or dialogue.
- Freeze Frame, Frame Advance, and Search Modes: Provides precise control over video playback for detailed viewing.
- Index Scan: Helps locate specific programs on a tape quickly.
- Digital Auto Tracking: Automatically adjusts tracking for smoother playback, reducing distortion.
- Multilingual On-Screen Display: Provides user-friendly menus and information in multiple languages.
