Setup

1. Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the unit.
  2. Insert two AA batteries (included) according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.
  4. For extended use, an optional 4.5V AC/DC adapter can be used to power the unit from a wall outlet.

Operating Instructions

CD Playback

  1. Open the disc compartment cover by sliding the OPEN switch. The "pop-up" mechanism will assist in opening.
  2. Place a CD (audio CD, CD-R, or CD-RW) onto the spindle with the label side facing up.
  3. Close the disc compartment cover firmly until it clicks.
  4. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback.
  5. To pause, press PLAY/PAUSE again. Press again to resume.
  6. To stop playback, press the STOP button.
  7. To skip tracks, press the SKIP/SEARCH buttons (▶▶| for next, |◀◀ for previous).
  8. To fast forward or rewind, press and hold the SKIP/SEARCH buttons.

"No Skip" Anti-Skip System

The SL-SX287J features a 40-second anti-skip protection system. This system utilizes rubber bushings, a thin and light anti-skip mechanism, and a digital servo system to absorb shocks. A 3-D anti-skip system recovers from horizontal shocks in 0.02 seconds and vertical shocks in 0.3 seconds. In case of a tracking error due to vertical shock, a 40-second memory buffer ensures continuous playback until correct tracking resumes.

Playback Modes

Radio Functionality (FM/AM)

The unit includes an integrated FM/AM radio tuner. Use the FM/AM switch or button to select the desired band. Use the tuning buttons to scan for stations. The display will show the current frequency.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause / Solution
Unit does not power on. Check battery installation and ensure correct polarity. Replace batteries if depleted. Ensure AC adapter (if used) is properly connected.
CD does not play. Ensure the disc is inserted correctly with the label side up. Check if the disc is scratched or dirty; clean if necessary. Ensure the disc compartment is fully closed.
Sound skips or distorts. Ensure the disc is clean and free of scratches. The "No Skip" system helps, but severe shocks or damaged discs can still cause issues. Check headphone connection.
Remote control not working. Ensure the remote is securely connected to the unit and headphones are plugged into the remote.
Poor radio reception. Adjust the unit's position. Move away from sources of interference.
