• Load Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 375 pounds (Type IAA Duty Rating). This includes the user and any materials or tools.
• Stable Surface: Always place the step stand on a firm, level, and non-slippery surface. Ensure all four feet are in full contact with the ground.
• Permanent Locking Mechanism: This step stand features a permanent locking steel spreader. Once opened and engaged, the step stand will not fold or collapse shut. This design enhances stability and safety during use but means the stand remains open for storage.
• Non-Conductive Rails: The fiberglass rails are non-conductive, providing electrical insulation. However, always exercise extreme caution around electrical sources.
• Maintain Balance: Always face the step stand when climbing or descending. Maintain three points of contact (two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand) at all times.
• Working Height: The maximum standing height for this 3-foot model is 30 inches. Do not stand on the top cap unless specifically designed for standing. This model is designed to allow standing on the top platform.
• One-Person Use: This step stand is designed for one-person jobs. Do not allow more than one person on the stand at a time.

Setup and Assembly

The Werner SSF03 Step Stand ships in a folded configuration. To prepare it for use:

1. Carefully remove the step stand from its packaging.
2. Place the step stand on a flat, stable surface.
3. Grasp the top cap and gently pull the front and rear sections apart until the locking steel spreader mechanism fully extends and locks into place. You should hear or feel a positive lock.
4. Verify that the spreader is fully engaged and the step stand is stable before attempting to climb.

Note: Once the locking spreader is engaged, this step stand is designed to remain in the open position permanently for maximum stability and safety. It does not fold back for compact storage.

Operating Instructions

Follow these guidelines for safe and effective use of your Werner SSF03 Step Stand:

• Positioning: Place the step stand as close as possible to your work area. The steep rear rail incline allows for close placement.
• Climbing: Always face the step stand. Use the broad, deep steps for secure footing. Maintain three points of contact (two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand) while ascending or descending.
• Standing: The step stand features a gentle front incline for easy climbing and a large, deep top platform (9" x 14") designed for comfortable and secure standing. Ensure your feet are fully on the steps or platform.
• Stability: The extra-large 6-inch foot pads provide excellent stability, even on floor gratings. Ensure the feet are clean and free of debris for optimal grip.
• Reaching: Avoid overreaching. If you cannot comfortably reach your work area, descend and reposition the step stand.

Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your step stand:

• Regular Inspection: Before each use, visually inspect the entire step stand. Check for:
  • Cracks, dents, or damage to fiberglass rails.
  • Loose, bent, or missing rivets/fasteners.
  • Damage to steps or top platform.

  • Proper function of the locking spreader mechanism.
• Cleaning: Clean the step stand with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the fiberglass or aluminum components. Ensure steps and foot pads are clean and dry before use to maintain slip resistance.
• Storage: Store the step stand in a dry, protected area away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Since it does not fold, ensure adequate space is available for its open dimensions.
• Repairs: Do not attempt to repair damaged components yourself. Contact Werner customer service for authorized repairs or replacement parts.
