3. Installation Instructions

This section provides general guidance for installing the Leviton Pull Chain Switch. Specific installation may vary depending on the fixture or application.

  1. Prepare the Work Area: Ensure the power supply to the fixture or appliance is completely disconnected at the main circuit breaker.
  2. Access Wiring: Open the fixture or appliance to access the existing wiring where the switch will be installed.
  3. Identify Wires: The Leviton 10097-8 switch comes with two 6-inch black leads (18 AWG AWM TEW 105C 600V), stripped 1/2 inch at the ends. These leads are typically used to interrupt the hot (live) wire of the circuit.
  4. Connect Wires:
    • Connect one lead from the pull chain switch to the incoming hot wire from the power source.
    • Connect the other lead from the pull chain switch to the hot wire leading to the light fixture or appliance.
    • Use appropriate wire connectors (not included) to secure all connections. Ensure connections are tight and insulated.
  5. Mount the Switch: Securely mount the switch within the fixture or appliance, ensuring the pull chain mechanism is accessible and operates freely.
  6. Restore Power: Carefully close the fixture or appliance. Restore power at the circuit breaker and test the switch operation.

Note: This is a single pole on-off switch, meaning it controls one circuit from one location.
