4. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and smooth operation of your Master Lock padlock, regular cleaning and lubrication are recommended. Dust, particles, and chemicals can accumulate over time, affecting the internal mechanisms.
4.1 Cleaning and Lubrication Schedule
- For normal environments: Clean and lubricate every 3 to 6 months.
- For dusty or corrosive environments: Clean and lubricate every 3 months.
4.2 Recommended Lubricant
Use Master Lock PTFE Lock Lubricant, which is specifically designed for all types of locks. Avoid using dry graphite or silicone lubricants, as they can interfere with part movement if applied in excess.
4.3 Maintenance Steps
- Use pressurized air to blow any dust or debris out of the keyway and shackle openings.
- Apply a very light spray or a few drops of Master Lock PTFE Lock Lubricant into the keyway and onto the shackle.
- Allow the lubricant to drain deep into the lock. Tapping the lock gently on a surface can help distribute the lubricant and loosen any sticking parts.
- Insert the key and open/close the padlock several times to ensure the lubricant is fully distributed.
- Wipe off any excess lubricant from the padlock body, shackle, and key.
- Allow the padlock to air dry before putting it back into use.
