Initial Cleaning (Before First Use)
Before brewing coffee for the first time, it is recommended to clean the coffeemaker to remove any manufacturing residues.
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, and Gold Tone filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Fill the water reservoir with fresh cold water up to the 10-cup mark.
- Place the empty Gold Tone filter into the filter basket.
- Place the carafe with its lid on the heating plate.

Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
- Fill Water Reservoir: Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water to the desired level using the magnified water level indicator on the side. Do not exceed the 10-cup maximum fill line.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Place the Gold Tone permanent filter (or a standard paper filter) into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is one tablespoon of ground coffee per cup, but adjust to your taste.
- Position Carafe: Ensure the carafe with its lid is properly seated on the heating plate.
- Select Brewing Cycle: Use the brewing cycle selector switch (often labeled 1-3 or 4-10) to choose the appropriate setting for the amount of coffee you are brewing. Selecting the lower setting for smaller quantities will slow down the water flow for optimal extraction.
- Start Brewing: Plug the coffeemaker into an electrical outlet and press the ON/OFF switch to the 'ON' position. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
- "Stop 'n' Serve" Feature: If you wish to pour a cup of coffee before the brewing cycle is complete, you can temporarily remove the carafe. The "Stop 'n' Serve" feature will pause the coffee flow for a short period. Return the carafe to the heating plate within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
- Keep Warm: Once brewing is complete, the coffeemaker will automatically switch to the "keep warm" function, maintaining the coffee's temperature on the heating plate.
- Turn Off: After serving, turn the coffeemaker OFF by pressing the ON/OFF switch to the 'OFF' position and unplug it from the outlet.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffeemaker.
Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffeemaker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, and Gold Tone filter in warm, soapy water. These parts are generally top-rack dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for longevity.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Do not immerse the coffeemaker unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
Descaling
Mineral deposits from water can build up over time and affect coffeemaker performance. Descale your coffeemaker regularly, depending on water hardness and frequency of use (e.g., every 2-4 weeks).
- Fill the water reservoir with a solution of white vinegar and water (e.g., 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water).
- Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
- Turn the coffeemaker ON and allow half of the solution to brew through.
- Turn the coffeemaker OFF and let it stand for at least 15 minutes to allow the solution to work.
- Turn the coffeemaker ON again and allow the remaining solution to brew through.
- Discard the vinegar solution.
- Rinse the coffeemaker by brewing two full cycles with fresh, cold water only.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your coffeemaker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
