Introduction
The KitchenAid Rotor Slicer & Shredder Attachment (Model RVSA) is designed to expand the capabilities of your KitchenAid Stand Mixer. This versatile attachment allows for efficient slicing and shredding of firm vegetables, cheeses, and fruits, simplifying food preparation tasks. It is engineered and tested by KitchenAid to ensure compatibility with all household KitchenAid Stand Mixers.
Components
The KitchenAid Rotor Slicer & Shredder Attachment includes the following components:
- Housing Unit: The main body of the attachment that connects to the stand mixer and holds the cones.
- Metal Shaft: Connects the cones to the mixer's power hub.
- Slicing Cones (2):
- One thin slicing cone for delicate slices.
- One thick slicing cone for robust slices.
- Shredding Cones (2):
- One fine shredding cone for finely grated ingredients.
- One coarse shredding cone for larger shreds.
Each cone is numbered for easy identification of its function and size. The cones and housing unit are designed for easy cleaning, while the metal shaft requires special care.

Setup Instructions
- Prepare the Mixer: Ensure your KitchenAid Stand Mixer is unplugged. Locate the attachment hub on the front of the mixer head. Unscrew the attachment hub knob counter-clockwise and remove the hub cover.
- Assemble the Housing Unit: Insert the metal shaft into the housing unit. The square end of the shaft should align with the square hole inside the housing.
- Attach to Mixer: Insert the housing unit's shaft into the mixer's attachment hub, ensuring the square end of the shaft aligns with the square hole in the hub. Rotate the attachment slightly if needed until it slides fully into place.
- Secure the Attachment: Tighten the attachment hub knob clockwise until the housing unit is firmly secured to the mixer. It should not wiggle.
- Insert Desired Cone: Select the appropriate slicing or shredding cone for your task. Insert the cone into the housing unit and turn it gently until it clicks and locks into position.
Operating Instructions
- Position Collection Bowl: Place a suitable bowl or container directly under the attachment's output chute to collect the processed ingredients.
- Prepare Ingredients: Cut firm vegetables, cheeses, or fruits into pieces that fit comfortably into the feed tube of the attachment. Avoid forcing large pieces.
- Start the Mixer: Plug in your KitchenAid Stand Mixer. Turn the speed control to a low to medium setting (e.g., speed 2-4). Higher speeds may cause ingredients to scatter.
- Feed Ingredients: Place the prepared ingredients into the feed tube. Use the provided food pusher to gently guide the ingredients towards the rotating cone. Apply steady, even pressure.
- Continue Processing: Continue feeding ingredients until your task is complete. Monitor the collection bowl to prevent overfilling.
- Turn Off Mixer: Once finished, turn the mixer off and unplug it before disassembling or cleaning.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your attachment.
- Disconnect Power: Always unplug the KitchenAid Stand Mixer before cleaning or disassembling the attachment.
- Disassemble: Unscrew the attachment hub knob and remove the housing unit from the mixer. Remove the cone and the metal shaft from the housing unit.
- Dishwasher Safe Parts: The slicing and shredding cones, along with the housing unit, are dishwasher safe. Place them on the top rack for best results.
- Hand Wash Shaft: The metal shaft should be hand-washed with warm, soapy water. Do not place the metal shaft in the dishwasher.
- Immediate Cleaning: For best results and to prevent staining (especially from ingredients like carrots), clean all parts immediately after use.
- Drying and Storage: Ensure all parts are thoroughly dry before reassembling or storing. Store the cones and shaft in a safe place to prevent damage.
Troubleshooting
- Attachment not locking securely: Ensure the attachment hub knob on the mixer is fully tightened. Verify that the square end of the metal shaft is correctly aligned and fully inserted into the mixer's power hub.
- Ingredients getting stuck or clogging: Cut ingredients into smaller, manageable pieces. Avoid overfilling the feed tube. Apply gentle, consistent pressure with the food pusher rather than forcing ingredients.
- Difficulty removing the attachment: Ensure the attachment hub knob is completely unscrewed. Gently twist the housing unit while pulling it away from the mixer. If a metal lever is present on your model, lift it while removing the cone.
- Inconsistent slicing/shredding: Ensure the correct cone is selected for the desired result (thin/thick slice, fine/coarse shred). Use firm, consistent pressure with the food pusher.
