Setup

  1. Unpack and Clean: Carefully remove all packaging materials. Wash the clear dome lid and the stirring rod assembly in warm, soapy water. Wipe the non-stick heating plate with a damp cloth. Ensure all parts are completely dry before assembly.
  2. Assemble Stirring Rod: Place the stirring rod onto the center post of the heating plate. Secure it by screwing the cap onto the post until tight.
  3. Position the Unit: Place the popcorn machine on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface away from walls and cabinets to allow for proper ventilation.
  4. Connect Power: Insert the power cord into the designated port on the side of the base unit.

Operating Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: Ensure the stirring rod is correctly assembled. Add 1 tablespoon of oil (e.g., vegetable, canola, or coconut oil) to the heating plate. For optimal results, allow the machine to heat for a couple of minutes before adding kernels.
  2. Add Popcorn Kernels: Pour 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels onto the heating plate. The motorized stirring rod will distribute them evenly.
  3. Place the Lid: Securely place the clear dome lid onto the base. If desired, place butter slices in the butter well on top of the lid; the heat from the popping corn will melt it, allowing it to drizzle over the popcorn.
  4. Start Popping: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. The stirring rod will begin to rotate, and the heating plate will warm up.
  5. Monitor Popping: Popcorn will begin to pop within a few minutes. The stirring rod ensures nearly all kernels pop.
  6. Serving: Once popping slows significantly (approximately 3-5 minutes), unplug the machine immediately to prevent burning. Carefully remove the lid, which can be inverted and used as a serving bowl.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Always unplug the popcorn machine and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.

  1. Disassemble: Unscrew the cap from the center post and remove the stirring rod.
  2. Clean Lid and Stirring Rod: The clear dome lid and stirring rod are dishwasher safe or can be washed by hand in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Clean Heating Plate: Wipe the non-stick heating plate with a damp cloth or sponge. Do not immerse the base unit in water or any other liquid. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that could damage the non-stick coating.
  4. Storage: Once clean and dry, reassemble the unit or store components separately. The lid can be placed inverted over the base for compact storage.

Troubleshooting

  • Unpopped Kernels: Ensure the correct amount of oil and kernels are used. Pre-heating the kettle for a couple of minutes before adding ingredients can improve popping efficiency. The motorized stirring rod is designed to minimize unpopped kernels.
  • Popcorn Burning: Unplug the unit immediately once popping significantly slows down to prevent burning. Do not leave the machine unattended during operation.
  • Stirring Rod Jamming: The Stir Crazy features an automatic reversal mechanism for the stirring rod if kernels get stuck. If it continues to jam, ensure the stirring rod is properly seated and tightened.
