Model: BK-40D
The Flowtron Bug Zapper is designed to effectively control flying and biting insects in outdoor areas. Utilizing a powerful UV black light and a high-voltage killing grid, it attracts and eliminates a wide range of pests, including flies, gnats, beetles, moths, and mosquitoes. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of your bug zapper.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock:
Always follow local electrical codes and regulations when installing and operating this device.
Verify that all components are present in the package:

Select an outdoor location away from human activity areas (e.g., patios, decks) to draw insects away. Ideal placement is 15-20 feet away from where people gather. Ensure the unit is hung at a height of 6-8 feet from the ground for optimal coverage and safety.

The unit comes with a sturdy hanging ring. Attach it securely to a hook, shepherd's hook, or other suitable outdoor fixture.
Locate the attractant slot at the bottom of the unit. Insert the provided Octenol cartridge. The heat from the UV lamp will vaporize the attractant, enhancing mosquito attraction.

Plug the unit into a grounded outdoor electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for added safety.
Once plugged in, the Flowtron Bug Zapper will immediately begin operation. The UV light will attract insects, which are then eliminated by the 5600-volt killing grid.

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your bug zapper.
The non-clogging grid design minimizes insect accumulation. However, if debris builds up, unplug the unit and use a small brush (not metal) to gently clear the grid. Do not use water or cleaning solutions directly on the grid.
The 40W UV bulb has an effective life of approximately 3,000 hours (about 4 months of continuous use). When the light dims or stops working, it's time for replacement.

Replace the Octenol cartridge every 30 days for continuous mosquito attraction. Unplug the unit, remove the old cartridge from the bottom slot, and insert a new one.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not light up. | No power to outlet; Bulb is burnt out; Loose connection. | Check power outlet and GFCI. Replace bulb. Ensure all connections are secure. |
| Fewer insects being zapped. | Bulb is old/dim; Octenol cartridge needs replacement; Unit placement is suboptimal. | Replace UV bulb. Replace Octenol cartridge. Relocate zapper further from human activity. |
| Zapper makes clicking sounds but no light. | Internal wiring issue; Damaged transformer. | Unplug immediately. Contact Flowtron customer support for assistance. Do not attempt to repair. |
| Insects accumulating on grid. | Heavy insect activity; Grid needs cleaning. | Unplug unit and gently brush off accumulated insects from the grid. |
