1. Introduction

Killer Instinct for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is a fighting game featuring a roster of unique characters, each with distinct fighting styles and special moves. The game emphasizes a combo system, including Auto Doubles, Air Doubles, Press and Release moves, Finishing moves, and Humiliations. Players must master these techniques to succeed in the Ultratech tournament.

This game supports 1 or 2 players and includes all ten characters from the original arcade edition, such as Fulgore, Jago, B.Orchid, Spinal, and the boss Eyedol.

2. Setup

1. Connect Your Super NES Console: Ensure your Super NES console is properly connected to your television according to its own instruction manual.
2. Insert the Game Cartridge: With the Super NES console powered off, gently insert the Killer Instinct game cartridge into the cartridge slot until it clicks into place. Do not force the cartridge.
3. Connect Controllers: Plug your Super NES controllers into the controller ports on the front of the console.
4. Power On: Turn on your television and then your Super NES console. The game's title screen should appear.

3. Operating Instructions

After powering on the console and loading the game, you will be presented with the main menu. Use the directional pad to navigate and the A button to select options.

3.1. Game Modes

• 1 Player Game: Play through the single-player tournament against computer-controlled opponents.
• 2 Player Game: Compete head-to-head against another player.
• Tournament Game: Engage in a multi-round tournament.
• Practice Game: Hone your skills and learn character moves without the pressure of combat.
• Options: Adjust game settings such as difficulty, sound, and controls.

3.2. Basic Controls (Standard Super NES Controller)

While specific moves vary by character, the general control scheme is as follows:

• Directional Pad: Move character (left/right), jump (up), crouch (down).
• A, B, X, Y Buttons: Attack buttons (light/medium/heavy punches and kicks).
• L/R Buttons: Used for specific character moves or combinations.
• Start Button: Pause game, confirm selections.
• Select Button: Not typically used during gameplay, may have menu functions.

4. Maintenance

Proper care of your game cartridge will ensure its longevity and reliable performance.

• Storage: Store the game cartridge in its original box or a protective case when not in use. Keep it away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
• Cleaning: If the game is not functioning correctly, the connector pins may be dirty. Use a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the gold-plated connector pins on the bottom of the cartridge. Allow to dry completely before re-inserting into the console.
• Handling: Avoid touching the connector pins with your fingers to prevent oil and dirt transfer. Do not bend or drop the cartridge.

5. Troubleshooting

• Game Does Not Start / Blank Screen:
  • Ensure the game cartridge is fully and correctly inserted into the console.
  • Power off the console, remove the cartridge, clean the connector pins (as described in Section 4), and re-insert.
  • Verify that your Super NES console is properly connected to your television and that the TV input is set to the correct source.
• Graphics or Sound Glitches:
  • This can often be resolved by cleaning the cartridge connector pins.
  • Ensure the cartridge is securely seated in the console.
• Controller Not Responding:
  • Check that the controller is firmly plugged into the correct port on the console.
  • Test with another controller if available to rule out a controller malfunction.
