Installation Instructions

Proper installation is crucial for the leak-free operation of your tub drain. It is recommended to consult a qualified plumber if you are unsure about any steps.

  1. Preparation: Ensure the bathtub is properly positioned and secured. This Moen 90410 model is designed for bathtubs with a height between 14 and 16 inches. The internal drain assembly itself is adjustable, accommodating a vertical distance of approximately 12 to 14.5 inches from the center of the overflow opening to the center of the drain tee connection.
  2. Overflow Assembly: Attach the overflow pipe to the overflow opening on the bathtub. Secure the chrome overflow plate with the provided screws. Ensure a watertight seal by applying a generous bead of high-quality bathroom silicone sealant around the overflow opening on the tub, between the tub surface and the overflow plate. Avoid using plumber's putty for this seal, as silicone provides a more reliable, long-lasting seal.
  3. Drain Shoe Assembly: Connect the 1-1/2-inch threaded shoe to the tub's main drain opening. Apply a bead of bathroom silicone sealant around the underside of the drain flange (the part that sits inside the tub) before inserting it into the tub opening. From below the tub, thread and tighten the large nut onto the drain shoe to create a secure, watertight connection.
  4. Connecting Pipes: Assemble the brass tubing components, connecting the vertical overflow pipe to the horizontal drain shoe pipe using the provided brass nuts and washers. Ensure all connections are hand-tightened first, then use a wrench for a final snug turn. Exercise caution not to overtighten, which can damage threads or seals.
  5. Trip Lever Mechanism: Carefully insert the trip lever mechanism into the overflow pipe. Test its operation by moving the lever up and down to ensure the internal stopper moves freely and correctly.
  6. Leak Test: After completing the installation, fill the bathtub with water and allow it to sit for several hours (e.g., overnight). Thoroughly inspect all drain and overflow connections from below the tub for any signs of leakage. If any leaks are detected, address them immediately by tightening connections or reapplying sealant as necessary before proceeding with any further bathroom finishing.

Operating Instructions

The Moen 90410 Tub Drain features a trip lever mechanism for easy control of water drainage.

The removable grid strainer in the drain opening helps prevent larger debris from entering the plumbing system.
