Setup and Installation

The Leviton 830-T plug requires assembly to connect to your electrical cable. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Prepare the Cable: Strip the outer jacket of your electrical cable to expose the insulated wires (typically hot, neutral, and ground). Strip approximately 3/4 inch of insulation from each individual wire.
  2. Disassemble the Plug: Carefully open the plug housing. Note that the internal blades may be shipped loose. Identify the terminal screws for each connection.
  3. Connect Wires: Insert the stripped ends of the wires into the appropriate terminal openings. The deep-slotted, backed-out terminal screws are designed to securely clamp over stripped leads.
    • Connect the Hot wire (usually black) to the brass-colored terminal.
    • Connect the Neutral wire (usually white) to the silver-colored terminal.
    • Connect the Ground wire (usually green or bare copper) to the green-colored terminal.
  4. Secure Connections: Tighten the terminal screws firmly to ensure maximum conductivity and prevent loose connections. Verify that no stray wire strands are touching other terminals.
  5. Reassemble Housing: Carefully position the internal components and blades, then close the plug housing. Ensure all parts fit correctly and the housing is securely fastened.

Note: Some users have reported that the blades may not be permanently installed and the wire clamps can be challenging for stranded wire. Take extra care during assembly to ensure proper and secure connections.
